Hi,

I've found conflicting information about whether there is a branch of Ikea in or around Seoul, some people say there is one and others say there are just other shops that sell some Ikea stuff.

Anyone know for sure?

There isn't one yet, although rumours abound that it will open this year. You can buy Ikea stuff from Gmarket.com but be prepared to pay for it, which I guess defeats the object of shopping in ikea in the first place.

With how massive the physical space of an Ikea is, I imagine we'd have more than rumors if it were set to open this year.

When Ikea does eventually open in Korea I wouldn't expect the typically low prices of Ikea as we know it.............Ikea already has a lot of brand-name cache among middle-class Koreans so I would expect a price jack in accordance.

Will they be able to get stuff in under the European FTA, or will it be subjected to Korea's standard protectionist nonsense?

There's been an IKEA store awhile already..it's in 헤이리, which is in Gyeonggi-do and just about an hour away from Seoul. Kinda near the Paju English village.

That place is a reseller, not an actually Ikea store, per my understanding.

Yup, it's a reseller, not in the same status as a proper IKEA store you'd expect in Europe.

I'm hoping you're wrong, but fear you're right.

How do Koreans find out about Ikea? From their relatives in New Jersey, from working in China...?
