|
|
Hi All
I was just wondering what the status of SIP-based voip (this is not skype for those who are wondering) is in Korea. Is anyone successfully running a voip ATAa or PBX / Gateway using a service like asterix or freeswitch by using a non-Korean DID? Does your ISP (eg QOOK) block you from using voip providers from outside Korea?
*edit* If anyone has had success in any form of Voip tunneling, I'd be interested in hearing about that too |

Ok ... to put it another way, is anyone running Vonage successfully? |

Probably not but there are no blockages, caps or throttles on your bandwidth so there is no reason not to (unless Vonage is doing IP checking/tracking and NOT allowing traffic to/from Korea as some US based services do).

Thanks for that.
I specifically had this (older) report in mind, although this might be only applicable to anyone in the US military using a Korean ISP:

To update on this issue (should anyone else encounter it in the future) I can confirm that SIP traffic will flow over KT's network without any problem (ie, without additional encryption).
I successfully tested a Polycom Soundstation IP335 phone with pfsense 2.0 RC3 and Freeswitch running on Ubuntu (amd64 package for Freeswitch is not working in pfsense at the moment). The SIP provider was Flowroute - they also provide a $0.25 credit for anyone wanting to test a voip setup. |
