What are people doing for Buddha's Brithday on the 26th?

Last year I caught the tail end of the parade in the Jogno area. I also read an article about some activities for foriegners, after the fact.

Does anyone have plans yet?

It seems liek they'll have a lot of cool interesting events going on around the time of Buddha's birthday. It's always like me to think about these things until the time of, then I conveniently forget (like the Gwangju and Busan Film Festivals I STILL have not gone to!!!)

Head to Seoul and visit a mate that is taking a 7 hour layover, so that we can have a beer. Smile

Last year I was brought to a great old temple here on the island, at the foot of a mountain, next to the pathway to the top and alongside a fair-sized creek. It was a good day.

This year I'm contemplating a trip to Jiri-san, if the weather cooperates.

Definitely going back to JongRo for the parade. I saw it last year and had a good time.

Last year I only had a film camera and I ran outta film just as it was beginning. That was when I decided to buy a digital camera lol. This year, I'm prepared Wink

Sleep and also try to figure out what the heck I'm doing. Figure out how to buy necessities, etc. (I arrive in Seoul on the 25th)

My cat is gettin' a little fat... I'm wondering if I should change his name from Loki (Matt Damon's character in "Dogma") to Buddha.

I had a great day last year. One of the best of my time here in Korea. Head up to Insa dong and the areas around there. Check out Jugyesa very near insa dong gil. It is packed, but still quite nice. You can make lanterns in the street just outside. As well as sample all kinds of foods Korean and other, last year they even had Thai, and it was cheap. Then grab dinner and hit the parade in Jongno. It is all walkable and cheap. A good way to spend a day off.
