I am an avid runner, and need shoes that fit my foot shape and stride so I can have working knees as I get older. Is anyone aware of a good place where knowledgable people will take the time to find a shoe that is right for me? It would be best if the place is in the Gyeonggi-do province, better if in the city of Siheung, and Seoul is OK too. However, I am willing to make a trek if there happens to only be a few in SK |

define "specialty running shoe"
There are plenty of the super-duper name brand shoe stores everywhere in Seoul. I am still new here, so all I can recommend off the top of my head is Itaewon; the main strip is filled with Nike and Adidas stores with a variety of shoe types to offer. |

this is merely my opinion; there are indeed many name brand shops around but I would not expect the advice/assistance you mention and the shops in Itaewon would not be much help either. This is merely my experience.
Others hopefully will be able to point you in a better direction.
But to give you something useful; I would try looking for an exact shoe which has worked for you before.
By that brand you can locate a store and then find that shoe. This might mean ordering or checking up on the webisphere later.
Good luck and sorry for not offering the answer you sought. |

There was an ATHLETES FOOT store in Myeongdeong last time I went there. They are the best I know that they carry multiple brands. They are an international chain as far as I know.
Most other brand name stores' staff know jack about anything, let along the products they are selling.
If you are an avid runner you should have a good idea anyway about what shoes you need and if you need help, I would go to a podiatrist, not a shop worker who is on the Uni holiday. |

I knew of a place like that but it went out of business. You might try finding websites for Korean running clubs--there are lot of these clubs--and they might have links to shops that cater to runners. |

I am looking for a shoe that is designed for my foot shape and stride. Running websites recommend that you have an expert examine your stride and allow you to test out shoes so you get the best fit for your foot. If I cannot find that, then at the very least I need to be able to find a brand and shoe that works for my feet. |

Thanks very much This is exactly what I was looking for: A "Gait Analysis". I couldn't think of the proper terminology. |

In case you can't sort anything out in person, and for anyone else interested:
www.runningwarehouse.com
You can upload a video and they'll do a gait analysis and give you advice on the correct shoe.
Or (and I found this super useful), if you already have a shoe you like but are looking for a different one, they give a detailed rundown of support, heel-to-toe differential, etc. for the majority of the shoes. They also have this thing where you can choose your shoe and it will give an outline of your shoe's insole against the selected shoe to give you an even better idea of fit.
Shipping for two pairs cost me about $45 if I recall correctly, but the shoes are so much cheaper than they are here that I still saved about 30kwon by buying them and having them shipped over. |
