Hi. I have a million questions and I can't seem to glean enough straight answers from all the places I've been looking at. Could I get a little help?
I'm hoping to get excepted into EPIK for the March 2012 semester. I've been doing research and looking at different recruiters, trying to figure out what my first steps are going to be at when I need to take them. I'm looking at Gone2Korea at the moment and they have about three sets of times they suggest you apply for ps for the March semester: one says between August and October, one says as early at June and then later says as early as September, then later on says 6-9 months ahead of time, but 4-6 months is good enough. Which is it? I'm so confused right now. Am I too late?
Also, I applied to footprints and did the very basic of application because I'm just starting. I'm afraid I didn't do enough and that they're gonna reject me. I'm also afraid I did it too early. Any advice would be so helpful.
Also, realistically, without teaching experience, what are my chances of getting into a public school? I do have experience working with kids, but nothing teaching. Would it be better for me to shoot for a hogwan the first year and try to apply for EPIK next year?
Again, thank you for any response. I need some concise answers and I'm not getting them on my own. |

| get your documents together first. then start applying 4 to 6 months out. i assume recruiter will give priority to the applicants with all the documents ready. |

Have your documents in hand (and scanned) by early December.
(remember that the CBC has a 6 month from date of issue shelf life).
NOTHING will happen until you have ALL your documents in hand.
(CBC with apostille, copy of your degree with apostille, passport, reference letters (for PS jobs)).
EPIK won't be making final decisions until January (they don't' require confirmation of intent to renew until late December from current staff).
The same is true of GEPIK (although their recruitment numbers tend to be higher than EPIK; more schools to fill).

I'm a noob and I'm also stressed out on applying....
I'm trying to apply to Gepik and I've tried sending an
initial application to Korvia (US office) and the recruiter didn't
even get back to me. I've submitted the online application over a week ago and now I'm thinking I got rejected!!
I think I should start using other recruiters.. |

Not to fret.......
I contacted Korvia last week and followed the instructions the young man gave me. This week, since I had heard nothing I did the follow-up call that all good job-seakers do 5-7 Business Days after submission. The young lady I spoke to told me my application, resume and picture couldn't be found.
What to do?
a.) I advised the young lady that I would be resubmitting my app through the US office on their website.
b.) I resubmitted an additional copy of my pic and resume per email in addition to the website copy.
Now I got a response the next day telling me that I would not be an acceptable job candidate as I am older than the allowable Governmental age (>50 y/o)..... at least for their agency. Oh well.
I guess my point is that its probably not worth getting yer undies in a knot until some unexplainable pattern of rejection turns up. Until then, its just Life being Life, right?

I think what I am wanting to convey is that this whole matter of seeking-out after employment requires an organized strategy and the consistent application thereof. An applicant needs to have enough respect for themselves that they set clear limits for themselves otherwise you'll come across as just one more needy bugger with their hand out.
For instance ....( and I'm pretty sure I'm not talking out of school here)..... what I am finding is that I get about a 15% response rate with the number of emails, pictures and resumes I send out. That means I get back ONE response for about every seven inquiries I send. Now....on my absolutely WORSE day of teaching or counseling I never once failed to return a phone call or dictate a response to a letter. Never. This tells me a little something about the work ethic of the people with whom I am dealing. Strike One.
So when I don't hear back from someone, I ask myself how important is a follow-up? For me the follow-up email or call is usually 100% important and comes about 5 days after my initial inquiry. If the email gets no response, or I am told that they agency can't find my app I'm more than willing to resubmit. In the back of my mind, the little voice says, "Strike Two".
Honestly, I'm pretty new at this process and other more experienced people may think differently. What I can tell you is that I'm a professional who has been around the block more than once. If an agency or prospective employer can't respect that, it may go a long way towards explaining why not a few of these people may be leery of dealing with someone in my age bracket. You also may want to consider how you are being dealt with now as a possible indicator of what you can expect if you ever find yourself in a jam and must depend on the person at the other end of the phone.

I did send out an email to korvia last week, but no response.
I am now just willing to resubmit my application/resume again. |

Hey, I've been accepted to the fall 11 term. I went straight through the EPIK website and didn't use any outside agency. It worked out really well and i'd advise doing it that way.
As said above, have all of your documents ready as if you were to send them tomorrow. |

| I don't know your applying a bit late, the deadline is tight. Takes about a month to get all the documents. And another month to process em. And another month for EPIK to sort things out on their end and decide whether to hire you. There's a notice on EPIK's homepage about their recruiting quota and how they're not accepting any more applications. Just processing the ones they already have. |
