Hi all,

I am an American who is about 5 months into my contract at a hagwon down in Changwon (near Busan, if anyone is wondering). I already know that I want to stay in Korea for at least another year but I don't want to be at a hagwon anymore, I want to try for a public school job or a public after school program.

What do I need to do to make this happen in the easiest way?

If I am not leaving the country do I need to have a new FBI check or could a new school just extend my ARC? Do I need a new visa? I want to figure this stuff out now so I have time to do everything I need to.

I want to stay in the same area so looking around for jobs should be fairly easy but the paperwork seems daunting. If anyone has done this please let me know how it works.

Thanks.

IF immigration has apostilled copies of your FBI check and degree on file then you can do a simple transfer of your visa at the end of your contract.

(new contract, new sponsorship letter, new employer business registration (copy), ARC, passport, application, 30k won fee.

IF you are leaving your current contract early you will also need a LOR. If it is within the last week of your contract you do NOT need a LOR to transfer.

The transfer MUST be accomplished BEFORE your ARC expires.

I am in a similar situation, but I have one question:

If I decide to leave for a few months and then come back to Korea, do you know if I would need another apostilled diploma or would they still have that on file?

I've been told by two sources that you get one E-2 visa transfer without a background check as long as you don't leave the country at the end of your contract. One of the sources was contact at the university that hired me who spoke to immigration. Does anyone know about this? My background check is in "State Deptartment" limbo and I'm getting nervous....

Read your other thread on the same subject.

*PS = public school
On a similar note, (1) if I am leaving PS #1 after my contract is completed, then start at PS #2 in another province within the 30 day time frame allowance for the visa transfer as described above, will both schools pay me the 1.3 mil flight allowance, PS #1 contract completion AND PS #2 new contract? (So I would be collecting 2.6 mil from both schools combined.)

(2) Will I have to leave Korea before I start the new contract at the new school? Again, provided that the visa transfer will have been completed before my ARC expired?
