I know there is a "martial arts sticky" but it is mostly about taekwondo or karate or something violent. This is different.

My wife and I are feeling very out of shape and we started classes in a local branch of "Dahn World."

There are a few kooky things they teach. However, any yoga or tai chi place might have some new agey gobbledy gook so it didn't bother me.

Mostly they are teaching some kind of hard-core chi kung. It is very strenuous but indeed, it does make me feel revitalized after I do it.

However, after I started noodling about the internet I saw many posts in which people say that Dahn World (called Dahn Yoga in the states) is a Ponzi scheme, or worse yet, a cult.

Maybe it is, maybe not. Some people on the internet say "If you want only excercise" (without the flaky ideology) "then Dahn isn't for you."

So anyway, I'm wondering is there any other place I could get chi kung classes in Korea?

On the internet I read about something called Chundosunbub (천도선법 기수련) but I can't find any locations except in New York or LA Koreatown!

Is there anything other than Dahn World or have they cornered the market?

i worked at a dahn-world hagwon in my first year here - BR English. it's nothing but a cult and a major ripoff for anyone who either sends their kids to the school or they entice into the special 'programs' for adult exercise.

asking kids to slap their stomach 100 times, 'sweep your body down', 'send energy to your brain through your eye's etc was too weird for me. if i recall correctly, the 'leader' ilchi lee wants about 300,000 dahn centres across the world.

i'm sure there are many people who go and enjoy it, just be careful when they start pushing 'life membership' for quite a few grand

This is a long shot, but where do you live? I am a qi-gong/tai-chi/kung-fu instructor from Australia, and have been looking for someone (or people) to practice with.

As fezmond stated, Dahn is the owner/operator of the BR ("Brain Respiration") hagweon chain. They fired a friend of mine because he had the gall to ask why they didn't deduct pension payments.

i heard this story too - maybe it was from you before (CentralCali). this was in my first year so i didn't have the balls to ask why they weren't deducting my pension paymens. also, being a uk resident, pension payments here mean sweet FA to me.

if anyone gets a job offer from BR English, it's not so bad but a lot of crazy stuff will come along with your job
