Takeru Kobayashi (Japanese)
Sonya Thomas (Korean)
Juliet Lee (Chinese)
I don't know how these skinny Asians can blow away good ole fashioned American lard asses.
--------------------------------------------------------
Joey Chestnut scarfed down 62 hot dogs to win his fifth consecutive Fourth of July hot dog eating contest at Coney Island the equivalent of about 20,000 calories in 10 minutes.
It wasn't a personal best for the 27-year-old nicknamed Jaws, but it was enough to out-eat second-place finisher Patrick Bertoletti by nine wieners. Chestnut of San Jose, Calif., won $10,000 and the coveted mustard-yellow belt.
"I feel great!" he said, sweat pouring down his face after the contest, adding he was going to drink a lot of water and avoid hot dogs for a few days.
Bertoletti, of Chicago, won $5,000, and third-place contestant Tim Janus won $2,500.
This year, for the first time, the annual contest in front of Nathan's Famous fast-food stand was broken into two divisions, one for men and one for women.
Sonya Thomas, known as the "Black Widow" of competitive eating, won with 40 downed dogs, earning her $10,000 and her own pink champion's belt. She beat out Juliet Lee, who ate 29 wieners, and Stephanie Torres, who downed 28.
Both Thomas and Chestnut broke world records in 2009; he with 68 and she with 41.
Chestnut's chief rival, Takeru Kobayashi, stayed away from the contest this year, staging a separate competition where he ate 69 dogs in 10 minutes which would have been a world record.
The slim Japanese champ held the record for hot dog eating from 2001 to 2007. After refusing to sign an exclusive contract with Major League Eating, the fast-food equivalent of the NFL, he was banned from the competition last year.
But he showed up anyway, wearing a T-shirt that said "Free Kobi," rushed the stage and was arrested. Charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, obstruction of property and trespassing were later dropped.
This year, the Japanese native nicknamed the "Tsunami" held the unofficial contest from a rooftop on ritzy Fifth Avenue, eating near a giant plasma TV airing the official competition live.

Takeru Kobayashi
However I think being Asian has nothing to do with it. These are people in shape, the train hard for these contests.
I do feel bad for Kobayashi. He shouldn't be banned from the Nathans contest (or any other, for that matter) |

Wait, so you posted the most famous hot dog eaters from Asia, and then an article about them all getting owned by Jaws, and then titled the thread "Asians own competitive eating"? |

I've been a Kobayashi fan for years and I will continue to support him to his retirement.
I don't see how or why the league should be the only recognized food eating accomplishments in the Guinness records. They are two separate entities. |

This year, Kobayashi staged a one-man event at a Manhattan restaurant at the same time flanked by TV screens showing the Nathan's contest in Brooklyn and ate 69.
Chestnut set the official Nathan's record of 68 in 2009. Major League Eating has said it will not recognize Kobayashi's 69 because it did not occur in a competition.
Chestnut had a similar sentiment, telling CNN: "It was no different than what I do at practice on my own and I'm able to break a record at my house."

Weak sauce? Please elaborate.
Kobayashi was not allowed in the competition. While I disagree with this, there were no officials there to observe him eating 69 dogs. You can't say 'because it was filmed' that it was sufficient.

Which world records have used videotaped evidence?
Why would you use such language when the link you provided says that Kobayashi's self-contest was unofficial? |
Read my post again. The Guiness Book of World Records allows videotaped submissions. Like this guy did:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6tlw-oPDBM
MLE is being petty, arbitary and stupid to refuse to acknowledge Kobayashi's world record because he won't sign their exclusivity contract. |
