I have a 2000 Kia Retona DX 4x4 for sale:
Asking 1,550,000 (negotiable), which is a steal if you look at other Retonas that are available. A Retona is a similar size to a Ssangyong Korando, or Hyundai Galloper, but is without many of the bells and whistles (it is a simple vehicle, based on the KIA K-151 military light utility vehicle), which means you get what you need, but at a reduced price.
Here are the specs:
2.0L turbo diesel engine
4x4 manual transmission
4 seats
CD player
power windows and locks; all function perfectly
recently replaced tires (all have at least 3 years of tread remaining)
all major fluids changed 6 months ago, including transmission
rebuilt transmission 1.5 years ago.
225, 000km
regular maintenance (changed oil, air filter, oil filters today)
clean interior; some scratches in trunk area, but nothing major
exterior silver, simple and sound; no funny decals
very minor damage to front bumper, front right quarter panel
This is a nice, snappy, little SUV/jeep/ute. Very quick for the engine size. An excellent vehicle to get around the city with, or drive around through the mountains. 4x4 can be handy. I've found it quite reliable. Turbocharger gives it a pretty decent sound to boot.
I am located in Chungcheongnam-do, in Nonsan-si. 010-2376-6480.

I've always liked the Retonas. Aesthetically they remind of the Jeep (like the OP said). And it's a standard shift! Nice little SUV. |

How is the gas, or should I say, diesel mileage on that? |

I live about 40km west of Daejeon (Nonsan). I can get to Ulsan and back in a tank and a quarter. I figure that's about 540 or so km. Tank is on the smaller side; around 35L.
That said, those km's were majority highway to be fair. |

Catch: I am leaving Korea 19 July and would like to retain ownership until about 1-2 weeks before that. I am flexible as to how to change the ownership and where the handover would take place. |
I saw your post on Saturday and was slightly interested, but today when I saw your new price I was beginning to be very interested ... until I read your "catch".
I mean, I can easily understand your need to keep your vehicle until you're about to leave, but it means that one would have to "buy" it and wait for about a month before being able to actually drive the thing. In the mean time, even though one were to get it checked by a mechanic and all was good, a lot of things could happen until "delivery" and next month it could be a somewhat different vehicle from the one you're selling today. If you can't sell it quickly or quickly enough (if you do, then good for you!) maybe you should consider letting it go earlier. |

I can get rid of it earlier if need really be. The earliest I could get rid of it would be the 4th week of June. That would be 4 weeks earlier than I wanted, but I could wing it. I understand your concern about looking at something one day that may not be the same later. I can assure that I am trustworthy and that if any changes did happen (even minor, which I am pretty sure wont happen) the new owner would be informed and adjustments made.
If you would like more info, please don't hesitate to call me. |

Just out of curiosity, I ran these numbers. 540 km divided by 35 liters comes to 15.43 kpl (kilometers per liter).
Being a Yank, I don't think in kilometers or liters so I did the coversion to mpg (miles per gallon). Google tells me that 15.43 kpl equals about 36.3 mpg.
If this is true, that's VERY good mileage and I'd jump at the opportunity to buy (if I could afford it...which I can't right now). |
Vox_Populi: Please keep in mind the original quote states a tank and a quarter (1.25 X 35L [approx]), therefore, the miliage is good, but not quite as exceptional as you stated.
I wrote this bit simply because I don't want anyone to be misled. |

So, it costs maybe 60-70,000 won to fill the tank? How is the leg room up front? |

You're close; W55,000 to 65,000. It had almost got up to 70,000, before the government stepped in and reduced fuel a couple of weeks back. Diesel helps. I filled up the other day when the fuel light came on. It came to W58,000. That said, I usually fill up at a place on the outside of town that is a bit cheaper than most.
Leg room up front is fine for anyone. I have more than enough room to stretch out, and in fact there is more room than a Korando (my good mate has one). We've put some pretty big fellas up front, including one with a busted knee and had no issues. The 2 seats in the back have more limited leg room. |

The heat works great.
I'll check the AC tomorrow to make sure everything is operational. When I tried it once before, it seemed to work. I've not owned the vehicle long enough to have had to use the AC (I bought it during the winter).
I'll post an update tomorrow about that one. |
