Well I'm currently with SK but it wasn't by choice as I needed my crackberry. However, as RIM is goin down the toilet (the Dakota is the exact phone I've been asking for from RIM but it's being released 3 years too late), I've decided to give in and get an iPhone. Now I've had no complaints with SK so far. I love their reliable service, reasonable prices, and have never been screwed with on a bill (they even gave me a month's grace on my bill one time without any penalty or fee). However, I'm wondering what people think about the two companies. I find that KT is a lot more accessible to foreigners and my Korean isn't perfect so I'd like that extra customer service.
So what're your experiences? |

On contract with SK for my Galaxy S and now my GS II. No issues at all.
A few times when my internet at home wasn't working I tethered to my computer and downloaded several gigs worth of torrents over 3G and SK didn't seem to mind lol. KT has setup global stores (I have one beside my home in gangnam) to help with setup and activation, but once you're up and going I don't see much difference between them. If I'm not mistaken they even share the same 3G network.
I agree that the new berries have been a long time coming, but you gotta admit they got that old OS to look slick. The latest previews show it being far zippier than iOS. I'd still hold off too since QNX is on the way. To survive in this market RIM needs to hurry up and get Kakao talk on the platform (I think they're developing the app themselves).
Curious why you'd go with an iphone? The iphone4 is quite dated already hardware wise (since you seem to be up on things). I'd hold out to see what the 5 has to offer or get on one of the new Android superphones since you seem concerned with specs. |

I agree with the tethering thing, I tethered my Berry and downloaded a crapload of stuff overnight several times and SK never said a thing.
I think that RIM is just comin out with too little to late and maybe if I was back in Canada I'd stick with them but here in Korea they just don't have the support for Berries. I'm gettin the iPhone4 as a holdover until they announce the nextgen in Sept. and I'll just pass the 4 down to my lil bro. I just find that when it comes to apps and overall user-base, the S2 and the iPhone4 are tops right now. I'd really like an S2 but I've had some bad experiences with Android before. I know it's a lot more polished now but I still think it feels slightly opensource rather than a polished corporate product (and I know some people like that). |

I have the unlimited data option on my iPhone (KT) and tether it to my computer very often. I have never had any problems doing so, so I think both companies allow this without restriction. In fact, the only difference I see is that KT has more wireless hotspots in Korea than does SK. Other than that, they seem to offer about the same plans at about the same prices.
If you prefer to be on WiFi more often than 3G, maybe KT is the better choice. |

I'm not too sure about the hotspots as I've noticed I'm connected to a T-wifi connection 90% of the time but that may be because I spend most of my time in Gangnam. KT is the same but I haven't noticed it being anymore ubiquitous than SK. Plans seem to be better at KT though.
Just curious if there has ever been a post that breaks down all the smartphone plans available by the two companies for comparison? |

Take a trip outside of Seoul (or even Kangnam) and you'll see that SK fails miserably on the WiFi front. Nationwide, KT has 50% more WiFi spots than SK does. Like you, I live in Seoul. Unlike you, I travel around the country quite often. It is nice when you have WiFi more often than not (including the subways) since it is usually faster than 3G. |

Yeah a bit of research showed ur defiintely right. However SK has wifi throughout all the subway lines so they're equal there. |
