My buddy works for Chungdahm and his contract is up this week and he is going home. He never filed his taxes for last year. He made a lot, so he probably owes ~3 Million won. Do you think Korea would go after him in the States for it?

Nope. No jurisdiction for enforcement or collection and not an extraditable offense (to bring him back to Korea).

What offenses does the US extradite to Korea for?

...Of course, murder, but what else?

what are the chances they could be stopped at the airport and prevented from leaving the country?

Is that even legal?

They would have to know the financial ins and outs of every passenger and why would they wait for you to board a plane if they could just go to your school or apartment?

How about this one. You send your money from your Korean bank account to the US. How do they know you paid taxes? Why don't they prevent the money from going to your US account?

If you weren't taxed it would easier to account for that through your bank than just someone walking to a terminal with a plane ticket in hand and two pieces of luggage. Unless you are walking in style and have some Michael Jackson security guards with you, your bling isn't much in the eyes of airport security.

They are more concerned with wires in your luggage. Safety, not finances.

If the tax office or prosecutor's office filed an indictment they would stop him at the airport, arrest him, take his passport and possibly hold or release him.

If there has been no indictment filed then he would be free to go.

Probably near 100% of people who read/post on this board have a so called University education. Yet still we get these moronic questions.
As someone else posted, the answer is JURISDICTION, something even dumb people understand.
