I'll be getting into Bangkok pretty late so the plan is to catch the early flight with nokair/boat to Koh Phangan.
Basically my question is do i just stay on Koh Phangan for 6 days then do my last two days in Bangkok?
or
Split my six days and do three on Koh Phangan then three on Koh Tao?
Looking for a chilled holiday and I don't want to be wasting too much time travelling, but at the same time it would be nice to see more than less if it's practical.
Finally, going in July and picked those two islands because I've read they have the best weather at that time.
Cheers! |

I'll guess people will say that 6 days on Koh Phangan is too much, but I was there for around two weeks, and I think your plan is pretty solid. There are a number of scenically masterful close places you could visit though. Look into other island/coastal areas before you go. If you'll be there for a full moon/half moon party and have the time to go elsewhere before or after, I'd do it. There is a lot more to Thailand than Koh Phangan and Bangkok, if you didn't know already. But Koh Phangan is a good place to be if you want to chill out for a while. On KP, unless the name has changed, stay at/look into staying at a place called Cookies: Beach front bungalows on the cheap, excellent location, and typical Thai wizard cuisine in-house. If you have the time to spend two days on Koh Tao, I would also fit that in if you really want to go there. Island hopping between the important ones on that side of the coast is generally easy, and the peninsula is so narrow that I don't think you'll be killing too much of your own time getting to the other side, if you care to do so. Eh, I love Thailand. |

I think it is totally something you can wait and play by ear. If you get bored on Koh Phangnan, head to Koh Tao.
Koh Tao is mostly for diving. And there wan't much of a local population before tourists came, so it seemed to me to be a bit too much foreign, not Thai at all. The waiter, hotel staff, dive instructor, cook, all were foreigner when I was there. I never saw anything like that anywhere ele in Thailand. But I did a couple of dives that were real nice, and I rode a motorbike around.
Anyway, have a great time! I recommend leaving that final detail to be decided when you get to Phangnan, to gie yourself so small spontaneous feel to your travel. |

Fly to Samui the next morning and spend a couple of days there. Then take the boat over to Ko Phagnan for 3 days. Don't even bother with Ko Tao, it's too small and nothing to do there other than dive and hang out with divers. Head back to Bangkok reasonably early on the 7th day and hang out around the Silom area checking out MBK, The Emporium, etc. |
