I don't have an actual question... I'm just asking for guidance. Any and all guidance is welcome
I've never been out of the US in my life (except for Canada, but that doesn't count. It's America's hat, eh? lol jk). I have been offered a position with an English Village and should I accept the offer, I start around July 11th. I know what some of you are going to say about EVs, but I've done my research... I know what I might be getting into and it's WAAAAAY better than this crap job I have now that is all stress and no money. I figure I can gain a lot of experience that's related to my future goals and the pay will get out of CC debt (then I'm going to throw those CCs away!).
Here's a logistical issue I have: I don't have my FBI CBC yet. I sent for it 4 weeks ago because I was applying for the EPIK program. My recruiter is uncommunicative as it takes three e-mails from me just to get one reply to answer only one question out of a few I had. Now, the HR guy at the EV said the average time for his new employees has been 5 weeks... so hopefully I should hear back from the FBI soon. If I don't, well I guess I have to hold out for the EPIK program.
In addition, if I accept this job... I need to really get my ass into gear. Essentially I have less than a month to get a lot of things done... like:
-Sell my truck.
-Make a 600-mile road-trip to DC for an apostille of my CBC (given the short notice, mailing it will take too long).
-See an old friend hundreds of miles south of me.
-Figure out what personal items I want to take and how I'm going to get them there.
-Buy a new computer (the one I'm on is a POS).
-Navigate the Korean E2 visa process (I live in Atlanta, and I heard it's much easier elsewhere).
-...more that I can't think of right now.
All this WHILE I promised my friend that I'd watch his pets for the entire month of June while he is on a long vacation.
I don't know... I want this job, but at the same time I don't. The pay is better than I will likely get elsewhere as a complete noob (2.4 M Won) and there is no guarantee I'll get a job with EPIK. Additionally, I can't find ANY job with my degree (mathematics) besides the crap one I have now... at least the EV will help to give me International experience and I can use my off time to gain some other marketable skills. Plus, I get to play with children... which is always a bonus.
Sorry for the long post. |

Southside... about 30 minutes from Downtown (20 minutes if I drive like a madman, haha). Are you from here?
I'm always looking for an excuse to road-trip (just like some kids always look for an excuse to party). Having a piece of paper signed is good enough for me. The biggest road trip I've been on was for a month to see the Southwestern US... I'll never forget that trip! |

Texas was a GREAT introduction to the West. When I hit the mountains near El Paso, it was too dark outside to see them. But I stopped at a Motel 6 in the middle of nowhere to crash. I'll never forget that morning when I stepped outside my room at 7 AM to see mountains that I've never seen before. I'm just all too used to seeing the Appalachian mountains and this sight was unreal to me. Later that day I made it to White Sands NM and did backcountry camping near the missile range at the National Park.
Texas was great... but I was ready to kill myself because the entire drive was nearly 1,000 miles. Never before have I felt so "stuck" in one state like I did in Texas. LOL. On the bright side, I did get to follow some police doing 90-95 for about 200 miles

Why would I need to get it done in CA? I was told I need it from Washington, DC since the FBI CBC is a federal document.
Yea, an EV. I am considering it for a variety of reasons. I've done my homework and I know what ESL teachers generally think about them. But, I'm still OK with it. My only real gripe about it is the vacation time... I get 20 days, but 10 of those days aren't at my discretion. I don't feel like I will have much time to get out of the EV and travel much... or do skydiving (which is a hobby of mine). But, my primary goal really is to get rid of the CC debt first... so, I shouldn't be worrying about vacation time for a while. |

I live all the way down in Ft. Lauderdale and had to go through the Atlanta consulate. It could not have been easier. They process your visa in 1-2 business days and they no longer require an interview. They mailed my passport with the visa in it to me the day after they got all my documents in the mail. |

you shouldn't have to go to DC for the apostille, you can get it done at the secretary of state.
the E2 process through atlanta is not difficult, i've done it twice now... |

It's not just your FBI CBC that has to be apostilled. You also have to have a copy of your university degree with an apostille on it from the secretary of state of what ever state your university was in. If you haven't already done this, go to your university, get a notorized copy from the registrar, and send it to the secretary of state of whatever state your university is in. |

Thank you for the info. I thought I had to produce my own copy and get a notary from a bank or something... but, I was not aware that my university could do this all for me. That will make my life a lot easier... haha. I'll get on it tomorrow morning.

Why do you say that? Did I give the impression that I'm doing this only to get out of my job situation now? I've been considering ESL for a year. But like with a lot of things, I consider them and never do them. I figured I need to finally do something besides idle speculation with no movement. I'm an open-minded guy so I know I'll adjust quickly. Plus, a good number of my friends are from Korea... so, I have at least a small idea of what I'm getting into over there. |
