As though it doesn't happen with Chinese food deliveries...

You casually pick up the phone to order a pizza. But that seemingly innocuous decision can produce fatal results. In fact, it puts deliverymens lives at stake. |

I feel bad ordering when it is snowy and icy out- so I don't. Or if it is really rainy.
While a lot of blame can go to the company, the drivers themselves are to blame as well. They get bored of driving all over the same two or three dongs 12 hours a day, get to know all the lights, all the traffic patterns, every inch of pavement in their delivery area, and get too bold. The know the police will never stop them, so they feel free to do whatever they can get away with. They take chances they shouldn't, and of course a lot of them will have to pay the price at some point.
I think the 30 minute guarantee is an ugly, dangerous relic that should be abolished, but almost all delivery guys drive with not nearly enough caution, and most places don't have that kind of guarantee. It's not just the Domino's policy that does this. |

I'm not worrying about delivery guys! Why? They seem to love driving like maniacs. They love this 'urban warrior' outlaw image. There has even been movies made about them in Korea.
I love the ones who refuse to wear a helmet because they think it's uncool. That's just natural selection going on there. Even when it's like 20 below in January and there's ice on the roads they refuse to wear helmets! Their head must be totally frozen! I suppose you can't get much brain damage though if you don't have much brains anyway. |

I've seen one pizza delivery scooter driver get arrested. But that was at a drunk driving checkpoint. |

So nobody orders pizza and all the drivers lose their jobs. Since they can't all be in a boy band, they'll turn to a life of crime, using the last of their savings to buy a baseball bat and join a gang. Or go into politics. |

I urge all delivery people to stop popping wheelies going 100 while blowing through red lights with traffic going full throttle against them. |

Reading the first two lines of that article made be feel like I was about to read an article about sweatshops or puppy mills. |

the real issue here is bus drivers rushing through red lights and killing others. |

Bingo, I've seen it happen alot. Almost killed me once
As for rushing for a delivery. No need! Bikes are really fast....it's just much more fun to drive them faster than slower. It's highly unlikely they can't reach a place in 30 minutes unless their lost.
Delivery boys are pros on bikes and know what they're doing. You think they drive crazy, but they're fine. |

Yeah I have lived here and seen maybe six serious accidents involving delivery boys, one of them just today. But when I am sick or just being really lazy I will still order food. They chose the job after all. |

Food delivery is always going to be a dangerous, hurried job. That's just the nature of it.
People order at peak times. People want their food fast and are often drunk/irrational when it comes to ordering food. They demand it fast and as cheap as possible.
And get this, the delivery people want to get it to you as soon as possible, not just because it is their job, but because they are human beings too and know that you paid good money for hot food and they want to live up to that.
Of course one solution would be for people to actually think more than 45 minutes ahead when it comes to stuffing their faces. That and to give up the notion that somehow they are "starving" and "hungry" when they order their food.
But they should really stop using scooters for safety reasons. It's one thing to deliver in a car, in a lot of traffic around here you won't be going faster than 35mph, so decent odds of survival. But scooters.....
The only way to get delivery drivers to drive slowly is for you to be a customer they hate OR for them to have a J in hand. Then the driver goes nice and easy. Of course they might forget your 2-liter of soda...
Heck, I bet the reason there are much fewer traffic accidents for food delivery drivers back home is because so many of them are delivering food totally blown.
FYI if you ever see a pizza guy back home and he has a clenched fist up to his mouth or if there is anyone in the passenger seat, now you know what's going on. No, that's not steam coming out of the window... |
