Should I get a few copies of my college diploma notarized and apostilled? How many? Or can I email employers my notarized photocopied college diploma and Apostille?
This is my last step before applying for jobs. It would all be easier to email this stuff and not apply for a lot of notaries and apostilles. Will I need all the originals to look for jobs once in Korea?
Basically, what is the process for the apostilled college diploma requirement? |

You'll probably need to turn in the actual Apostilled copy of the diploma. I, personally, got 4, because I plan on going back to teach for another year or two and I wanted to be prepared.
Apostille process is simple. You go to your county clerk office or Secretary of State Office (depending on which government building apostilles things for South Korea in your state/province/whatever- I'm from GA, US). You'll want to call ahead of time to find out which place you need to go to. I didn't and ended up wasting another 1.5 hours trying to find the right place because no one told me.
You show up, fill out a form for having it notarized. Get it notarized, then get it apostilled. That's about it. You also have to have it done for your Federal Background Check. Last I checked, South Korea is fine with state-level apostille on Federal Background Checks, so hope your Federal Background Check wasn't sealed by the federal government or you'll have to pay $175 like me to have it apostilled by a company in California because you don't have 2 months to wait for it to be apostilled in DC. Yeah, imagine how I felt in the county clerk's office when they told me they couldn't apostille by background check and I would have to go to DC... Sigh. |

Until you actually begin the visa application process I would suggest using scanned copies of your degree+apostille. Recruiters do NOT need the original until you have a signed contract. Only use the original when you (your employer) actually applies for the visa confirmation number.
Bring along 1 extra in case things don't work out for you. This will enable you to make a quick out/in to cancel your visa and begin again without a long wait for new documents.
The same can be said for your CBC (keeping in mind that it is only good for 6 months from date of issue).
To answer your question, "do they need originals?" the answer is:
i) NO for the job application process.
ii) YES for the visa application process. Your originals will NOT be returned by K-immigration.

can't emphasized this enough. signed a contract from a hagwon from hell, and managed to pull a runner and secure a great job afterwards because I had a fresh set of docs ready. |

Yes, make a copy of your diploma and get THAT notarized. Don not ever give your original to anyone no matter what they say. |
