I'd like to get out and do a few bike trips this summer/fall. I figure there should be quite a few nice places to ride along the south coast and on the islands down there, some nice stretches along the east and west coasts, and also some great rides in the interior of the country. I'm thinking anything up to about 100km is fine.
Here's what I'm looking for:
1) Beautiful scenery (great ocean views a bonus)
2) Relatively light traffic
3) Not too many steep climbs (I realize this is Korea and it's all mountains, but I'd prefer nothing too extreme)
Thanks |

My two favorites are Wonju to Sokcho, which has beautiful scenery and light traffic, is a little up and down and one very long, steep climb (Hwy 56 to Yang-Yang), and Wonju to Andong, which is beautiful and pretty flat for Korea, though Hwy 5 has a moderate amount of traffic in places. There is also a good trail, 66 km, in Yang-pyeong, but is's a mountain bike trail and has a lot of climbs and steep descents - no traffic though, its all off-road. |

Sounds fun.
How long do those take roughly? Any stops along the way? Also, what are the conditions of the road. Are you driving alongside the speeding traffic or is there a proper piece of road for you to ride on? |

In Daegu you can bike along either of the two major rivers in town, the Geumho or the Sincheon. I prefer the Geumho these days as it does not dead end like the Sincheon. If you continue heading west along the river trail it will turn into a dirt road and continue on. I'm not sure how long it goes on for but definitely you can get to Gyeongsan. |

In Autumn, during chuseok, last year, I went to Namwon and biked to Jirisan National Park. Beautiful golden rice fields, green mountains, and blue skies. Don't know how well you can bike up mountains. I rode up to this place on bike called Unbone, I think. Not sure of the same. Anyways, rode to there and took a backroad riding down another mountain through the edge of the park. Kind of dangeruos if not cautious, but very scenic drive. Got a lot of good pics that day. |
