I was just looking through Korail's English website and I couldn't find any information on this.
Are bicycles allowed on trains? I'm mostly interested in Mugunghwa trains in Gangwondo.
Thanks |

I've seen bikes on the subway plenty of times. No problems. |

Thanks for the reply.
Most of the subway lines are not run by Korail, though, so I'm still wondering what Korail's policy is. |

BTW, plenty of other posters have seen what I've seen. What is going on with this website? I have no idea. |

I tried riding my bicycle on the train, but I didn't get there any faster. |

I can't say for sure but I've ridden the mugungwa trains in gangwondo (they're the same everywhere actually) and have no idea where you'd be able to put your bike unless there's a special car reserved for wheelchairs and bikes. All the cars I've ever been in didn't have ramps or space for a bike.

I take my bike on trains twice a week, Wonju to Cheongyangni, and have been doing so for the past two years. Never had a problem. Best thing to do is to hitch it to a railing with a bike lock in the restaurant car. |

Folding bikes ARE acceptable, NON-folding bikes are unacceptable.
It's hit or miss though. I was in Gangneung a few weeks ago, and my friend and I rode down the coast to Jangdongjin Station and then hopped the Mughunwha back up to Gangneung. The women at the counter said she didn't know if we could take ANY bike on the train, but said we could buy the tickets and if the conductor said no, we could get a refund.
We got on the train okay, but as the ticket guy came through, he told us my bike was not okay, but since we were only going 10 minutes up the line, he'd let it slide (to be fair, he was in kind of a joking manner about it). He said though that the OFFICIAL policy is ONLY folding bikes are allowed.
But yeah, there is nowhere to put a bike on there, which sucks. If the food car is empty, yeah, but if it's not, it's going to be an uncomfortable ride. |
