Hi Everyone,

I've read this forum for a few months and really enjoyed it. I like reading about everyone's different experiences in Korea. I thought I should toss my experience in Korea for others to take in.

I was an exchange student in 2002 in Daejeon. I was in Korea for 4 months. I got treated well and I had a great experience there. Never experienced any racism in Korea. I was treated quite well. If I had a bad experience, I wouldn't think of coming back. I just found a job teaching in Jeonju and will start in September.

Just wanted to say that not all non-caucasians have a horrible time in Korea. Well...At least I didn't.

Here's a picture of me courtesy of Hannam University (I'm the one in the middle). Oddly enough, the guy next to me is Kwon Sang Woo, who is a movie star in Korea.

Any questions, please PM me

Thanks for reading,
AlyAllen

Hi AlyAllen,

You're going to a nice town in Jeonju, that's where I was for a year up until April. The town's a nice size (about 700,000 people), not too big, not too small, and surrounded by farmland and hills. It's well-known for its cuisine, which is delicious and is close to Geumsamsa temple, which is very beautiful.

There's around 200-300 English teachers in town, the foreigner hangout on Fridays is a pub called Deep Inn. The university district, Deokjin, is a cool place to hang on weekends, plenty of cheap eats, pubs and clubs.

I'm hoping to go back to Korea later this year and will probably head back to Jeonju. If you're got any questions about the place feel free to PM me.

Cheers,
Ben
