So we had KT come in and install internet. We bought a Belkin router for wifi. The problem is that even though on our respective laptops that is shows full strength the pages "sometimes takes a long time to load' or even times out.
So was wondering is it the router or the KT modem? |

cheers for that
this is the results for the main computer that we run it through
Ping: 6 ms
Download Speed: 66.03mbps
Upload Speed: 1.88mbps
P.s. BTW. the download speed on the notebook (that is the one that is not the main computer for the internet) is half the speed. I dont know if that makes a difference |

Not very good by Korean standards....I typically get 90mbps download and about 30mbps upload......
I'm curious, why did you go out and buy your own router? KT would have given you one of theirs as part of the installation. Plus, theirs might actually work better as it would be set up exactly for their service.
You might want to consider asking KT to come back out with their own router. |

I asked them about providing a router but they said they would provide (rent) an AP (whatever that means).
The main computer (It is a Samsung laptop) is fine. but the mac book and the mac airs are running so slow.
Think maybe need KT to come back to test the service?
My current house mate had KT and a router and the service was good. We dont have big distances from the mobile laptop to the router |

An "AP" is an access point for wifi - I had guessed you were using wifi to begin with, but you will always see better results with ethernet wired. We can use this to test your setup and find the culprit of these poor speeds.
I suggest you strip down the setup to the basics and try to isolate a cause:
1. Plug the main ethernet outlet directly into a single computer (preferably your fastest computer) and perform a speediest as above;
2. Plug the router into the wall but have the same computer perform a speedtest using wired ethernet;
3. Perform another speedtest over wifi as you did before.
Please let us know how this goes. If there is a significant problem, it should be evident in these results. |
