My contract's expiring soon and I've been asked to re-sign at the same hagweon. I'd like to stay at the same school, but I'm having difficulties convincing my boss to set up pro-rata severance starting from next year. He says that the legal department told him that it's impossible. Which legal department and why exactly is it impossible is still a mystery to me.
So, is there anything in the way of having pro-rata severance on an E2 visa? I feel that this is a very minor issue and my boss is making it a lot more difficult than it should be.
Also, on related note - how is severance calculated? I've heard it's the average of the last three paycheques, but is extra work included in the average? For example, if I work Saturdays and that adds another 20-25% to my paycheque - will it count for severance or not? |

Yes, just don't claim it at the end of the year and it will roll on in to the next year. If you already have it then good luck negotiating that.
Having said that, read some of the threads on here on this subject. It's not unknown for hagwon bosses to try screwing you out of the severance when it's rolled over. Personally, I would never take the risk in a hagwon.....

Yes, overtime is included. The severance is the average of your last three pay checks minus taxes. |
