I think I'll block off July to get a 100-hour online TEFL certificate and apply to a few local school districts here in Missouri to become a substitute teacher. By September, I think I will have three weeks substitute teaching experience and a TEFL certificate with ICAL Online TEFL.
Anybody know anything about ICAL Online TEFL ($265)?
Is a TEFL certificate equivalent to (albeit three weeks) of substitute teaching experience?
I'll apply to Chung Dahm Institute in mid-August and put both of these on my resume.
Will CDI accept substitute teaching (which may require a DESE certificate from Missouri, not hard to get, though - I can get it in July) as "teaching experience?" Would I even need a TEFL certificate if I have substitute teaching experience in my home country?

You are aware that CDI is currently being sued for labor violations?
Unless you have a year or more of verifiable classroom experience they won't count it.
Your on-line TEFL is virtually worthless EXCEPT for the 100k pay bump in a public school. Hagwans won't care and outside of Korea it (and the majority of other on-line TEFL/TESL/TESOL certs) have NO value as a teaching certification.
Bottom line: IF you have your degree, your US passport and a clean FBI record check then you are good to go for any entry level job in Korea as an ESL/EFL teacher. Get your apostilled documents in order and apply now. Delaying only delays your departure.

Have any links?
