I aplogise if this has been posted before.

I thought it might be a good idea if we had a thread with some ideas on what to do if you are required to spend your summers at your desk.

I have been in Korea for 4 years now and this is the first time I have been required to do this. I am not very happy, though I understand that the provincial education office has mandated this for all foreign teachers. Particularly frustrating is the fact that I teach elementary school, and half of my classes are taught using my own curriculum without the use of a co-teacher. The classes that I teach with a co-teacher she often does not come to class. I always graciously accepted this with the understanding that allowances would be made, but since the change of principals in February this has not been the case. What can you do?

I think I might just bring my Xbox to school for the summer.

Any other ideas?

Games to pass the time...

I spent one student summer working in a cinema which had closed down. Twelve weeks of wandering about a deserted building. I hear that some of these games were used to suppress tedium.

Five Clicks to Jesus

Instructions:
a) go to www.wikipedia.org
b) Click on 'random article'
c) you now have five mouse clicks to reach the page entitled 'Jesus of Nazareth'.
d) repeat ad nauseum. Possible substitutions for 'Jesus of Nazareth' include 'Adolph Hitler' and 'Dalai Lama'.

Where have I been?

This game requires a large piece of clean(ish) bluetac and a willing accomplice.
a) player one takes the bluetac out of line of sight of player two
b) player one presses the bluetac onto something with a distinctive shape or pattern.
c) player one brings the bluetac, with impression gained from instruction b back to player two.
d) player two must guess where player one has been to have gathered such an impression.

Verbal Warning

Instructions
a) position yourself by the nearest security/cctv camera.
b) throw popcorn ( or small pieces of scrunched up paper, should popcorn be unavailable) at said security camera
c) game is won when boss comes down and gives you a verbal warning.

Instant Dismissal

Instructions
Follow instructions a and b as above, but game ends with instant dismissal.

Enjoy!

You could start a mini brewery and get some nice lagers perked by the end of summer! Stash the equipment in one of the unused janitor bathroom stalls.

Film a short movie.

Write hilarious anonymous love letters to your VP (in Korean, of course).

Hire a personal judo trainer to give you lessons in the gym.

Use the cooking classroom to brush up on French cuisine.
