hi all,

if any of the forum experts can please advise a name, website or ph# for the governing authority that handles apartment disputes.

in Australia it is called the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal (Tribunal). It is a government organization that has the authority to issue legally binding orders to apartment owners or tenants where there is a dispute that needs a resolution.

my apartment needs repairs and the owner is dragging her heels to make the repairs. my school repeatedly has contacted the apartment owner requesting the repairs but no result as yet.

so we are looking to take this matter to the relevant Korean authority to resolve the issue. (not looking for a court or police). looking for the korean housing authority.

i think this is a legal grey area in Korea. I've got ongoing disputes with my ex-landlord actually and i ended up having to seek legal advice (there is a legal advice for foreigner hotline -- google it) that you can try.

Perhaps, you can ask your school to threaten to quit paying rent until repairs are made.. But, as far as i know, there isn't an equivelant to australia's tribunal.

Are you (or your school) actually paying rent?

My guess is the school got it on the cheap with not much key money, so there is probably a good reason why the landlord is slow with repairs.


But that's just I wild guess. I may be totally off base.
