There's a thread somewhere about the Discovery channel switching to Discovery Korea or something like that and having many of its shows dubbed. Well, we used to have "The Disney Channel" and it was replaced a year or two ago with "Playhouse Disney" which is geared toward younger children. For the past few weeks there have been ads saying that "Playhouse Disney" was changing to "Disney Junior." Well, today it changed, and to our surprise and disgust, every show is now dubbed in Korean.
Our kids go to regular Korean school and preschool, so we asked them to stick to English TV shows. Playhouse Disney fit the bill pretty well - all English, no commercials. I don't get why they made this change. Being in English is what made them unique. One can already see American and British children's shows dubbed in Korean on numerous other channels. Now Disney will be just one of many kids' channels showing similar stuff.

You should look into getting the Skylife satellite package. I have all the aforementioned channels and they are all in English -- Discovery, Disney, Animal Planet etc. I pay about $50 per month.

My wife showed some option that even if a program is dubbed, you can change it to the show's original language.

We did it on the Disney Channel because they were showing some movie we were interested in watching and it was dubbed. She went into the cable's menus and changed something to English and we could then watch it in English. Maybe check if yours does that as well? I was with C&M at the time and if they can do it I am sure the others can too.

What a rude awakening! I'm royally pissed! Disney Channel was the last frontier for good quality children's ENGLISH programming.

If it's anything like EBS, you'll hear the same three or four voices doing all the characters for every single show. How do I know that? I have a 2 year old toddler and a 6 year old preschooler. Every morning we would eat breakfast and watch Disney English together, spend some time in the evenings,watching an hour as well. A simple flip of the channel to EBS and you'd hear the same people doing the same three or four voices for every "Korean dubbed" show.

Imagination Movers and Handy Manny, two fantastic children's shows now ruined! Thanks Disney for selling out to the whims of Korea!

Luckily though, I have quite a number of English books to read to them as well...

Cbeebies.....all English. No ads. Quality British programs for pre-schoolers.

Well, in Britain if you're watching the BBC there are no ads. Not a one. Because the BBC is funded by the TV licence fee. Every television set owner in Britain has to pay 145 pounds per year. By law. No choice. You can get prosecuted if you don't pay it.

But the other non-BBC channels show ads.......but not in the very annoying American style where they show the opening credits of the show then cut back to ads for a few more minutes.......That's so screwed up.

On C&M Cable, follow these steps to return the Disney Channel to English:

1. Open the main menu.

2. Select the last menu (간편도우미)

3. On the next menu, choose the third option (환경설정)

4. On the next menu, choose the 15th option (음성다중설정) - you'll have to scroll down to find it.

5. On the next page, choose the second option (외국어) and the remember to hit save (저장).

Presto! Disney Junior in English again! Not sure if it'll affect other channels or not...

Thanks for the info! It works for me, except when I try to save that setting, it says it can't. So, every time I switch away from Disney and back again, I have to go through all those steps again. Better than having the English gone forever, though. Maybe my wife can call them up and see why it's not saving that preference.

Or, though it may be out of fashion, use the great outdoors as your cinema. Woraksan is a great place to go camping. It's amazing.
