|
|
Hi,
I'm looking for a conversation and activities book for high beginner adults (not university students).
I'm not interested in play the CD listening type exercises or listen to the conversation type drills.
I'd like something that is more "free-talking" conversation related. I like Jazz English but I've already used that with this lot.
Basically I'm looking for a simple to understand book that allows them to have semi structured conversations but talking about their own experiences, opinions, and ideas.
Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks in advance.

"To Kill a Mockingbird" is a modern American classic that has become a mainstay in many American schools. Its not just that it has a simple and direct writing style, but also that it touches on many universal cultural themes such as growing-up, variance of perceptions among classes, impact of economics on the community, and, of course the fundamental nature of discrimination in institutions and communities.
There has also been an explosion of Self-help books that cover almost every conceivable topic. Of special import are the huge number of Business books which speak to management style, investment models, starting businesses, hiring practices, employment seeking etc etc.
Lastly, there are the travel books which can either be handbooks on a particular locations "do-s-and-don't" or traveloques by a person whose trip might be interesting. If you want to add a spin you could locate an old, out-dated travel book and open a range of discussions about how things have changed between then and now.
Are these the sorts of suggestions you were looking for?
Best Wishes,
Bruce |

Get "Teaching Unplugged" by Luke Meddings and Scott Thornbury. It has some great conversation-driven activities/ideas for EFL lessons. |

I found these on Amazon:
- "First Discussion Starters: Speaking Fluency Activities for Lower-Level ESL/EFL Students" by Keith S. Folse and Jeanine Aida Ivone
- "A Conversation Book 1: English in Everyday Life" (4th Edition) by Tina Kasloff Carver and Sandra Douglas Fotinos-Riggs
Im not quite sure I like them, but they seem to have (or be) what youre looking for. |

Oh. Well, the Interchange series would probably be a lot better. I like Cambridge. |

Use the pagoda SLE series. I use the more advanced ones regularly but the lower levels might be good for you. Also for adults, I like the Ultra English: Advanced book (not so advanced). All are great for 1-2 hour class lengths. |
