Obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension on the rise in America?

What? SHOCKING!

The avg. American diet is so much healthier than the average Korean diet! Did you guys know that RICE has CARBOHYDRATES? I bet you guys didn't know that. In conclusion, Koreans eat unhealthy. Nevermind that S. Korea has one of the lowest obesity rates in the world. Numbers schnumbers.

Isn't it a sign of success? A country that can over-feed it's people.

i would disagree

it all starts during our Elementary years and as school food choices have changed, more fats, sugars, and other negative things have gone up

think about your local average high school and how many corporations sell their products such as Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and other unhealthy foods

it has to change on a government because at this rate, average American health care costs is going to go up considerably...overweight people have a lot more health problems as they age + government funding for health care not looking so good, their needs to be action...imo

its not a success for the country but for the food corporations who are pretty much under-regulated and have for years used unhealthy oils, sat foods, and foods loaded w/calories

This. It isn't really the amount of food people are eating, but the shit quality of the food they are eating.

Usually it is not their fault, although I dislike fatness.

I think it's more about what people are drinking than what they're eating.

Is it really about overfeeding the people, or more about the types of cheap foods being fed upon?

well corporations have a big part in it:

example: KFC got a huge fine because they were primarily located in lower income neighborhoods on purpose

also, Dollar Menu Items are a cheap way to get full as healthy choices usually cost more than a buck

i agree that it is a CHOICE, but for many lower income people, i can understand why and less so for people middle and upper class who have options

Isn't fat hate just another method for those with money to feel morally superior to those without?

Help yourself. Help your family. Help your friends. Actively work to change the structures that reward the manufacture of corn and corn sugars, etc, etc. Change food politics.

Otherwise, mind your own business. Another person's health or body composition is not your business.

This is definitely NOT the fault of the "corporations" and NOT a "problem" to be fixed by government.

High calorie food was developed and peferred throughout history because people needed it. People worked hard - 97% were farmers, and most of the rest performed some kind of labor. Farmers and laborers typically need to eat 4000 calories per day - some less, some far more.

These days the typical American lives a sedentary lifestyle and needs only 1800 calories per day, more or less.

There is nothing wrong with the food. In fact, many farmers, laborers and high-performance athletes still need these high calorie food options. Cheap, high-calorie food is essential for them if they are not high income earners.

Most people just need to exercise more or eat less.
