I'm leaving Korea August 10th but willing to get rid of this stuff anytime after August 1st. I'd be happy to offload very cheaply some basic things you might need:
a really nice table. Works for dining (4 people would work, but it's a tad narrow) or as I've used it, as a desk. It's plain wood, unpainted, kind of rustic stylish.
two matching to the table but not identical wooden chairs. Also rustic stylish.
I paid 40,000 each for the chairs, can't remember on the table, but I'd part with the entire set for 90,000 won which is a lot cheaper than any used furniture place. And this stuff isn't cheapy plastic.
a bunch of nice fabric-look boxes for storing things in. I'd sell these for almost nothing or even give them to someone who bought other things. We have five of them in various sizes. We used them for clothing.
A two rack system that creates tension off your ceiling and stand wherever you set it up in your room. We didn't bother to buy closets because we were only going to be here a year and didn't bring many clothes (bought some though!). My husband kept his on the lower rung and I kept mine on the higher and it all worked out just fine. Looks a little messy though since you can't close a door on it. It cost around 30,000 but I'd part with it for 10,000 if you were willing to come here and take it away.
Kitchen stuff: sauce pan, frying pan, tea kettle, spatula, ladle, glass lock-n-lock containers, mugs, -- it's used, I'd give you all of it for 15,000 won and you'd be mostly set up to cook. Does not include silverware which I am keeping as I got a really nice set, does include two large plates, mixing bowl, colander, etc. (All of this I'd prefer to get rid of MUCH closer to August 10th than August 1st but we could work something out).
Low Korean dining table: super nice one, wish I could take it with me. Has one small scratch, bought it for 70,000, seats 4 or I've crowded 9 at it but we were pretty squashed, I'll sell it for 25,000 won which is the same price you buy for a chintzy one that'll fall apart in two months. This one is sturdy and solid wood, really really pretty.
Bookcase. Small 3 shelf bookcase, comes up to my breasts in height, each shelf is the width of an old school Ency Brittanica if you laid it down flat on it's side. Pale unfinished wood, 15,000 won (we paid 40,000).
Tall 6 shelf normal width bookcase. A tad bit rickety. I'd get rid of this one for free if you bought anything else.
Various other things--
mosquito net tent large enough for two people sleep in. 10,000 won (cost me 50,000 at this size)
Bamboo slat rug/summer sleeping mat. Cost me a bit, but give me 10,000 and I'll be happy.
comforter (but I want to keep the gorgeous cover, so this is a comforter warm enough for dead of winter but it needs a cover). 10,000 won (I paid a lot, but a lot of that was for the cover...)
green blanket style rug (the kind with little grippies on the bottom so it doesn't slide). We used this as a spare bed when people came to visit, it hasn't been walked on. free if you're getting other stuff.
Small lamp with three settings, perfect for making your room not so intensely overhead-lit 7,000 won
Plastic locking tubs (at least 2 available) free to anyone taking home the kitchen stuff
space heater, oscillating, two settings, low energy use, cost 40,000 won, would part with it for 25,000 as it's in perfect condition including original box.
A power converter, in case you brought any Western voltage ONLY use things. 5,000 won
power bars, etc. little things I won't need and you will if you're just moving here.
I would welcome just getting rid of all of this to the same person just arriving in Korea. I speak Korean well and can arrange for a van taxi to take you and all this stuff from my house to yours. As the Korean dining table has folding legs, all of this will easily fit in a van. Except the tall rickety bookcase.

Also I have a marvelous set of hangers that comes with the closet-substitute. Squishy ones, wood ones, fat plastic ones... and the thin ones from the dry-cleaner. |

I'm in the greater Itaewon area, above the Jungang Gyeongnidan (중앙경리단).
I also live in an awesome small 2 bedroom with an amazing view and a decent landlady if anyone is looking for digs as of August 10th. |

Hey! I'm interested in some of this, including the apartment but can't send PMs yet. Could you toss one my way with details about the apartment? Thanks! |
