i stopped using YouTube a while ago, can't stand those Ads

Google claims they need to run Ads in order to "support" bandwidth" which would be ok if they did it for 5 min. plus videos only or something

Google taking over YT killed it for me, watching a 30 sec. ad for a 2-3 min. video....really Rolling Eyes

I agree that watching ads sucks, but where do you think the money for running the business comes from? Ads are a necessary evil if you want free content.

But it wasn't "necessary" to put them directly over the video screen though. That was a choice, and an annoying one at that (for the user anyway).

Man people are a bunch of whiners these days.

A dozen years ago there was nothing like youtube. Heck, a bunch of us were probably still on dial-up.

Oh woe is me, I have to sit through a quick commercial.

Seriously, when I hear gripes like this I have to ask if the person whining even has a clue how the real world works and the fact that you need money to pay for things.

Here's an idea- before you whine, stop to think and ask why things are the way they are.

Don't we all have tabbed browsers? Just read some random wiki article on another tab.

What an impatient society that 30 seconds is torture...

That doesn't even make sense. Is Steelrails now the official apologist for everything? I mean, Google is a US company, so it isn't like Steelrails is defending Korea.

Maybe I just don't like people who whine and moan about everything under the sun and blame everyone else for their problems and do nothing to adapt or deal with it.

Sorry to break the bad news, but youtube doesn't love you and exist to make you happy.

I'm completely with Steelrails on this one (alert the media!). Most of us are old enough to remember having to sit through 5 hours of terrible music videos just to see the one or two we liked as teenagers. Missing something awesome on TV? Too bad! Never going to see it again! Now everything's a click away and people are complaining about having to sit through a 10-30 second ad to see it? Come on.

Reminds me of this Louis CK bit "We live in an amazing world and it's wasted on the crapiest generation of spoiled idiots.":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk

That's a great point and of course I agree, but in a relative sense regarding modern media, who likes to sit through advertisements? Not me. It doesn't keep me up at night or anything though.

Yes they are necessary but when people talk about websites, user experience is an issue and overuse of ads kills it. I don't like ads creeping into every aspect of our lives and then pushing the boundaries as far as possible regarding how much of our time they can waste. What's next, sitting through 5 minutes of the ads for one video? They will push the boundaries and some of us won't like it, while others will say "quit whining! In my day we walked uphill both ways to get to an internet connection and had to sit through 47 minutes of repeating ads and we felt lucky to view them!" Wink

completely disagree

i think many of you aren't looking at the big picture...its not just ONE 30 second ad.

if you add up all those 30 second ads, let's say you watch 10-20 videos...thats 3 mins. to 6 mins. of time watching Advertisements which for many is useless crap...and seriously if you buy something from a Ad that you see or a Spam, you fall into a special class of human

Google is not going to just stop at Ads, they didn't HAVE to put it over almost every single video but they did...why? because YouTube dominates the video streaming market and they knew most people would suffer through it (hopefully something better will come along)

also, Google is a corporation and their forcing you to watch crappy advertisements for products about 99% percent will never buy

so let's say on average its 3-6 mins. a day or if you watch let's say 1 American TV Show, if you watch that same show online, it comes out to about 20-22 mins. of actual show...that means about 8-10 mins. is spent on Advertisements

10-20 YouTube videos a day:
3 mins. a day = 1,095 mins. a year
6 mins. a day = 2,190 mins. a year

ONE American 30 min. Show:
8 mins. for ONE SHOW = 2,920 mins. a year
10 mins. for ONE SHOW = 3,650 mins. a year

basically to me, thats time lost, ever bought anything from an advertisement? ever thought, dang, i really want to buy that car or i really want to switch insurance companies now or dang, my dog/cat food just doesn't compare to that brand

Most ads are complete crap and plays to our rawest of emotions on love/hate, funny/serious, etc. and almost nothing is gained from Ads except more exposure to Brand Marketing by corporations

its not just pissing and whining about everything...its about one thing Ads and the time YOU lose in your life

adapt and deal? most people have, honestly i can't remember the last time i turned on any of my T.V.s to watch a show on Regular TV or Cable...i watch everything online...WHY? i get to avoid 100% of crappy ads

let's say i watch three shows Online vs. three Shows on regular T.V.

it equals out to about 30 mins. or another Show i could watch or do something else rather than have to watch Ads

Korea does it right, most programs i watch put all their Ads at the end of a show which to me is great...i think most British shows do this too

its a much more convenient way to get up after one show, grab a snack, take a bathroom break, etc. and then come back to watch something else than to run back or guess when the show will start again
