How can I get this stupid phone to update to the latest OS? It won't recognize/find/install SDC serial or something like that, and it won't every connect with Kies.
I'd like to throw this POS against a wall and be done with it. Why didn't I buy an I-phone? Samsung sucks! The net is full of people who have the same problem, but there seems to be no solution.
Is there a way I can reset this phone entirely without losing my contacts list, and still be able to update? I'm afraid to do that, because then I'll probably not be able to update the phone as far as it is now, with my luck.
I've tried 4 different computers with XP, Vista, and Windows 7. No luck. I want to take it back to the damned store and see if they can do it.
Also, must it be the original USB cable included with the phone to work?
HELP!!!! |

| I had trouble getting my wife's galaxy S to connect with Kies. Turns out I had to change a setting on the phone before connecting it. |

That might be USB debugging. Try turning it off (or on).
If that fails, use Odin and flash it directly. Pretty sure there are a bunch of tutorials online.
Samsung have really got the ball rolling with the Galaxy S2, it KILLS the current gen iphone, waiting to see what Apple's response is. Too bad you're having trouble with their last gen. |

So, you didn't research before you want to the store, bought a phone with a known major bug/problem, then use that here to rail against Samsung and scorn yourself for not buying aPple? Seems you are the missing link in an otherwise complete loop.
Seriously though, if the net is "full of people who have the same problem, [sic]but there seems to be no solution", why did you buy it?
Sorry I have no insight into your current situation. If it is as big a problem as you say, I am sure something will be done to address it soon enough either by the company or the community. Patience, I suppose. I would probably start by reading other forums and/or Q&As regarding the problem as well as (instead of?) posting here about it. |

a last resort is to take it to a samsung a/s. they will update for u there n then.
i had to this when i had a kies connection problem. u know the usb can lose connectivity because of dust/grime accumulating in the phones micro usb socket. they had to clean mine up. always put the slider cover over the usb socket when its not in use. |

One would hope that Samsung would sell a product without major bugs. |

That applies to pretty much every other company. |

I love Apple products but I own a Samsung Galaxy, which I love as well.
But objectively speaking, Kies is a horrible software program. They should just allow updates OTA until they can get their software in check. Just a terrible terrible interface program.
The galaxy and the galaxy s 2 are great phones though. |

Look around the "Got myself a Galaxy-S" thread. There's much about KIES written there (nothing too positive but almost everybody went through the same troubles).
Since Gingerbread I haven't had any troubles with KIES (but I still keep the I Hate KIES Facebook group alive just in case).
I think it's a software problem - which means a Korean problem, another story - as the program is much too sensitive over particulars. Improve you chances of success by:
- using the original USB cable
- using a "tight" USB socket, trying all of them in turn
- ensuring that there is no lagfix applied to the phone
- keeping the phone connected to the charger
- having the latest Samsung USB drivers installed (KIES normally does that for you but hey, we can't always be sure of that)
- asking your friendly A/S person to do it for you
Right now, the only thing that's left making me angry about KIES is that the part I really need (f/w updating) is probavly a 4 MB module in a 100 MB package of rubbish software. Sort of like iTunes.
The Galaxy-S series itself are great phones, so no need to throw yours against a wall. |
