i have a friend visiting early next week, and ive booked us an early morning train to mokpo.

i've initially thought of heading to hangdo or an island nearby mokpo for the first day, doing boseong and the folk village on the second day, and am now at a loss for where to sleep the second night and spend the first half of the third day before returning to seoul.

ive never been to Jeollanam-do before and have read so much conflicting information about ferry times, islands that are worth and not worth my time, etc...

the train ticket can always be cancelled, but i'd really like to show my pal some rural korea (boseong, nagan folk village, and some island like from way down south....

anybody from the area have any suggestions?!

Sounds like you have some good ideas, and really everyone ought to get out of Seoul and experience a different side of Korea by visiting more rural provinces.

Plenty of motels available in Suncheon, the city nearest the folk village, so you might think about staying there for the night. They are mostly clustered around the bus terminal, with a few near the train station and several new ones behind the Home Plus in 조례동/ Jorye-dong.

Or, if your Korean is all right, you could rent a 민박 at the folk village. Poke around this website for more:

I can't get that link to work at the moment, so have a look at a Naver search for some names, numbers, and websites:

The next morning you could go to Suncheon Bay, about a dozen kilometers south of the city.
