Hello, I am looking for some information on what the pay/salary scales might be for Professional work at a Korean company. General information is fine but I would like to get specfics on what Foreign Engineers or Attorneys are making. Any input would be very welcomed! |

I only know about western engineers in the ship building industry, sorry. I've met other types of engineers but haven't really discussed salaries. lawyers I know nothing about.
Experienced western enginners working for shipbuilding firms usually make between 12-15 Million Won a month (month on month off) for Hyundai in Ulsan and Daewo and Samsung on Geoje Island. Most of them are in their 30's at least. Basically their negotiate their own contracts, so it's up to them to get the best deal they can.
Two western Engineers I've met made a lot more but they were both in their late 50's.

As far as I know, it's near impossible to be a lawyer here if you're a foreigner. You can be a legal consultant, but not a practicing lawyer. |

Thank you southern. I thought I had heard figures like that before for the guys in the shipping industry. I have the opportunity to switch from Law professor to corporate work and I am not sure I want the job. They are asking to "see my number" first. I don't want to come in too high or too low. I have been told the hours aren't too hectic. If the money is right I am willing to seriously consider it.
Anyone have some experience in the corporate world here in Korea. I know what life is like for the Korean businessmen (I teach plenty of them). What about for the foreign hired staff?
Thx. |
