|

Has anyone traveled to Taiwan and tried to use their Korean cell phone? Does it work? I know roaming charges for calling would be high, but what about text messaging?
Any info would be great.
Thanks! |

Mine (Oz) was fully functional in Taipei, can't speak to points south or east. |

Hi,
if it is a Korean phone on the Korean network I would say it will not work outside of Korea. Of course you can always try but I would not be hopeful.

as the above poster said, if it's a korean phone on the korean network, you won't be able to use it. i've got to the point where i leave my phone at home when going overseas. the first few times i took it to use as an alarm clock - but it won't even function as that.
this is only anecdotal, however, so please prove me wrong. |

I think the 3 major providers have auto-roaming. I've been to Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Singapore and have been able to make calls using my SKT phone. Also, in Vancouver too, but not in Calgary. But be warned, roaming rates are significantly higher than the rate you get in Korea. |

Yeah, those don't work, from what I've heard. I've used mine without issue in Thailand, Taiwan, and the States. I can also confirm that friends have been able to use theirs in Malaysia and Singapore. |

It will only work if you have a contract phone. Prepaid Korean phones don't work outside of Korea.
Rates for voice and data are exorbitant, but texts aren't generally bad (maybe $.20 USD each - just a guesstimate). I've travelled to China (PRC) a number of times as well as Hong Kong, Macao and the USA with my Korean contract phone and it's always worked. I only use the voice feature for emergencies. |
