I left Korea over a year ago and have only passed through sporadically since then, and I know that the nightlife scene can change a lot pretty quick..anyway, I'm coming by with a couple co-workers (mid-20's) next wed/thurs and I was wondering what places are good to go, preferably around Hongdae or Itaewon, where we'll be staying. Just looking for somewhere with good music that we can socialize in English, and if it had a bit of a "euro" feel that would be cool too...nothing too "Korean" though, Ho-bar would probably be the closest we'd go there. I was thinking about Luv or Naked, are they decent esp Wednesday? How about Cocoon or somewhere else in Hongdae? Thanks. |

Check out 52 in Itaewon (formerly Function, on the same floor as the Macaroni Market).
On Wednesday nights, women in groups of 4 can get a free bottle of Danzka Vodka upon entry. It's a new promotion that is starting to gain a bit of traction.
The operator is a former model and a real sweetheart. Dress nicely, as the clientele are a bit more upscale than you might be used to in Itaewon.

For a more rowdy time on Wednesday, B1 in Itaewon is busy 7 nights a week. Great place to get a table, have some drinks and get up and dance if the mood strikes. They do charge cover on Thursday, though.
On Thursdays, an awesome place for cocktails is Between, on the mainstreet between (heh-heh) the IP Boutique and Hamilton Hotels. Large glass and steel facade, right across from the fire station, can't miss it.
Naked in Itaewon is pretty fun on Thursdays, but Club Naked (same owner, also a very cool guy) in Hongdae has kind of stolen some of the regular clients that used to populate it. It's bigger, louder, and in a more "youthful" area.
M2 on Wednesday nights is always packed during the holiday season if you're up for a night of hard clubbing.
Hope all this helps! |

If you wanna stay out of Itaewon, I advise Garosu-gil near Shinsa subway station. It has that Euro feel you're talking about without the GIs and other barflies that Itaewon attracts. |

Thanks for the suggestions, especially Between as I'd only been there once and had forgotten about it. I think 가로수길 is a bit too posh and non-interactive though, that's why I'm guessing Itae/Hongdae would be better, as they don't speak Korean and just booked at the Hamilton. I'm thinking I could take them to a good makkeoli/haemulpajeon place as well - I seem to remember a place on the alley right behind the Hamilton.
Any other suggestions, or where you would take your foreign friends on tourist stuff for 1.5 days in Seoul (temples, Insadong, COEX, Kangnam)?...after living there for two years I'm a bit out of touch with the best touristy places.
Edit: I have two female (ethnic HK) coworkers who are apparently coming as well now..they'll be there a few days - ladies, any suggestions to recommend for them? |
