I currently work at a public school from 8:30-4:30pm. I am on a E2 visa. I would like to get another job from say 6-9pm or 6-10pm at a hagwon. Is this possible in anyway? from my understanding I would just have to get my school to sign off on it saying it was okay.
Any information you can give on this subject would be greatly appreciated. |

It is illegal (public service act). It is also illegal for Korean PS teachers to take a 2nd job.
If you were at a hagwan you could take 2 jobs with your employer's permission.

Thanks TTompatz for the quick reply! So basically the only way around this would be working at a hagwon illegally with out telling my current employer. I'm not sure if it's okay asking this, but how dangerous is doing this? Deportation? Banned forever? Can I just walk into hagwons in my area and offer to work under the radar?
If anyone has any personal experience in this type of situation, please pm me. I will pay consultation fees to those that really know the system

It all depends on how crooked your new hagwan is and how close to your school it is.
IF any of the staff or your students see you the word will get out.
If the hagwan is in the same city and they register you at the education office you will get found out.
If you are found out and ANYONE in the PS system wants you gone for any reason you are screwed.
If you are discovered and the school has to make an issue out of it you will get fired and you will never work in a PS in Korea (on an E2 again).
If Kimmi finds out you will also get fined and may get an exit order.
If the crap hits it, it WILL complicate any future attempts at gaining another E2 (people with immigration violations from illegal work to overstay need to have a consular interview for EVERY new visa application.)
You'd be better off arranging to have an after-school program started at your school or adding an extra class or two to your current after-school program. This will put you up to class loads similar to those of a hagwan worker but will also add an extra 400-700k per month (depending on how many classes you can arrange or get) to your monthly pay.
You can also work at another PS's after-school program (within your district) and get extra pay for it.
