My friend and I are planning on going to jeju-do in July for the holiday.
We called the travel agent and they gave us this quote
213,000won a person
includes round airfare, three days, two nights, guided tour of the island, breakfast, dinner each day.
When I looked on Asiana Air round trip tickets at this time are 56,000won
question should we take the package deal or try and arrange things on our own? |

it really depends on whether you like someone holding your hand and setting your itinerary for you.
Doesn't sound too expensive, but then Jeju isn't dificult to get around, get a map from the airport, flag down a taxi, point. |

Fly down, stay in a inexpensive hotel, rent a car and tour on your own.
Non U.S. military people can stay at the military base on Jeju. They have hotel rooms and car rental. Car rentals are CHEAP! 50.000 Won a day! Off base, the korean car rental companies charge 50.000 Won for 6 hours!
Hotel rooms, 40.000 a day.
The base can't compete with the Hyatt, etc. or other fancy hotels, but they have an indoor swimming pool, hot tub, free internet, a snack bar, etc.
If a travel agency quoted you 213.000 Won per person, for three nights lodging, jump on it. Now add in the food cost, etc. Taxi fees, etc.
Renting a car on the military base... you can buy gas their for the base rental car at a LOW rate! LOW rate!
But, if you are looking at the lowest price available then that means you have no money to spend freely and are on a tight tight budget!!
If you're cutting corners at the 213.000 Won....you're hurting!!. |

i went on a package to jeju two years ago. it was great! airfare, 4 days 3 nights in a really nice hotel, breakfast every morning, two full days of touring for about 320,000.
i was a little skeptical about the whole package tour thing, but it turned out to be pretty good. the touring days were great. they took us to see things that we probably wouldn't have gotten to see on our own, even if we had rented a car. thing is, if you have limited time, a bus is great because you don't waste time looking for things. i can't even remember all the things we saw. some really nice look-off points, a mongolian circus, horseback riding, an orange farm, a huge temple, several beaches....i can't remember. we still had two days on our own too, which was nice for some serious beach time.
i guess it depends if you're looking to see a lot of neat stuff, or take 'er easy and sit on the beach. |

Check out these guys:
http://activejeju.com
They arrange customized tours, will take you to places you'd never find on your own. They specialize in so called "eco" tours - perfect for those who like hiking, climbing, scuba diving, bicycling... So many possibilities - the island is great. I usually try to steer clear of "organized" tours and crowds in general, but with these guys you may end up having the guide all to yourself or being in a very small group (3-4 people).
If you do e-mail them to enquire about the tours and prices, you can mention that Lana recommended them to you - they may give you a discount. |

I think you will find this is a one-way ticket. i checked and Asiana siad basically you are smoking drugs or being ripped-off for that price. When i saw that i rang them to get a ticket.
That tour sounds pretty fair to me(check the hotel).
I've done Jejudo twice(both times 5 days) and just did it myself. You can actually drive on most of the island with no hassle, it is a great place to go(there i said it) and there is a lot of good stuff to see.
Highly recommend Udo(probably won't be on your tour list). |
