I'm having a particularly difficult time, as a gyopo - they bypass my qualifications and dismiss me because I'm Korean-American, which is really frustrating. Please share your experiences, if any! If any gyopos currently working in Korea could share their experiences re: securing employment and actually working, that would be great as well.

I'm a gyopo. I've been in Korea for a little over 6 weeks.

My recruiter told me that its harder for gyopos to get jobs during the end of July-Sept because all the foreigners that couldnt get their E-2 visas in time for May/June are coming in the fall. I didn't have any trouble securing interviews though with the school knowing beforehand that i was an F-4 visa.

If you have your F-4 visa in-hand, you should be extremeley flexible regarding location and start date. I got my job less than 2 weeks before I flew out to Korea. Most F-4/gyopos get hired last minute when they haven't found a caucasian person to fill the position.

I'm Asian-American (E2) and having trouble finding jobs. honestly I feel that half of the jobs on Craigslist are posted by several recruiters who immediately pass you over if you aren't caucasian.

I decided to head to Korea directly and land a job that way. You probably need to do the same. You have the advantage of the F4 visa. Seriously, USE IT.

Having your F-4 visa in your possession will provide to be very beneficial.

As SeoulCat stated, keep all your options open when it comes to your date of availability and location preference.

There are hagwons out there that are looking for F-4 visa holders because we can come to Korea on short notice.

However, take note that many, if not all hagwons require gyopos to be able to speak Korean.

If you don't speak Korean well, don't be discouraged. My Korean is basic at best and I was able to land a hagwon gig starting in mid-August.

i did a very short stint at a hagwon to try and meet more korean people and learn the language when i first got here. i just found the position on craigslist and got it the same day after the first interview, no complications. i did quit shortly after though due to the fact that i wasn't meeting any people besides the horrible staff and teachers and wasn't learning any korean to boot.

my corporate gig i have now however took 4 interviews and multiple months to get.

i'm also on an f4

I'm going to Korea for vacation at the end of August for 3 weeks. Has anyone tried to do the interview and the hire process in person? I would think this would be better since they get to see your mannerisms.
