Hi

My boyfriend and I are planning on moving to S.K in January to teach English. We're starting to get our documents sorted now but I was just wondering at what stage we should post our resumes and start applying and getting in to discussions with employers? How many months in advance is this realistic to start sorting?

The beginning of January is the earliest time that we can leave the UK due to work commitments so we're trying to plan the timings as best we can.

Any advice anyone can give would be most appreciated.

Thanks

January start means Hakwons. Hakwons mean it is useless to start applying earlier than say 2 months before your desired start date.

Good luck.

January is a bad time to try to leave (middle of the school winter holiday).
The new school year starts March 2.

IF you are looking at hagwan work then start applying (documents in hand) about 60 days prior to your hopeful departure date.

If you are looking at a public school job then December-Jan is the application window for late Feb. Starts.

Remember that your CBC must be LESS THAN 6 months old (from date of issue) when your visa application process begins (sending documents to Korea).

In the UK that means you should get your check done in November and start applying as soon as you get it back with the apostille on it.

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately we are unable to leave before January due to both of our work situations, but didnt want to delay any further - we cant wait to be there! I think we're happy to work at a Hagwon but may look in to EPIK and SMOE too.

Keep in mind the CBC process takes 3-4 months from the time you mail in your prints. I know they say that, but I heard it and thought "Oh, this probably happens every once in and a while and they just SAY that to be on the safe side." No. It really does take that long.

Actually the Criminal record check only takes 2 weeks to do in the UK and you don't need to do any prints, just complete a small form and mail a few documents

Thanks for all the advice. I think we're going to apply through EPIK now and see how that goes first. Is it very competitive to get placed through EPIK?
