|
|
I have two bottles of soju I bought a couple of weeks ago here in my room. I did that standard thing of assuming that because it's alcohol it'll be fine at room temperature... yet some people tell me that it should be stored in the fridge. It's been in my room at normal room temperature (in England) for a week and a half now...
Can anybody shed light on this?
Is my soju RUINED??? |

Hey, if you can buy it like this, then how bad could it be:

A man found foreign objects in a sealed bottle of soju on Sunday.
The 48-year-old office worker said he found three toothpicks, a cigarette butt, a thread and vinyl material inside the sprit which he bought at a shop near his home in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province.
The distilled alcohol was produced by Muhak Co. based in the southeastern province.
The normally transparent bottle had turned dark brown due to the alien materials, he said.
It was marked as being shipped on July 20.
I notified the company of my finding but the company did not responded in a responsibly way, he was quoted as saying.
I will keep it until the company CEO comes to me and apologizes.
The company said it had begun investigating the incident, but said it suspects someone may have inserted the items intentionally. Its products undergo strict examination by workers and electronic devices, the company added.

Just add some coke or sprite and swallow. I mean, hey, it's the feeling that counts (not the taste). |

A friend of mine bought a 1.5 liter bottle of Green soju about 10 years ago -- keeps it on his liquor shelf, gathering dust. We took it down a few weeks ago to do a shot again.
The bottle was opened many years ago, and has been sitting at room temperature since it was purchased. Not only is it fine, but its tenure on the shelf has improved it signifigantly. It is now smooth enough that one would call it "good," and tasty enough to be worth sipping. I kid you not. Took about 5 years to reach that state.
Pretty sure that sealed bottles doing a few weeks in a cupboard will be fine. If you are that worried, use them for cleaning your stove, and shell out the 2,000 won for another pair of bottles.... |

I believe the appropriate storage for the sophisticated palate is to have your soju laid on its side in your cool, humidity-controlled backroom (65-75% humidity). Of course, make sure that room remains very still and dimly-lit for the best possible experience. When ready to drink, bring out the correct glasses to properly aerate the sulfites.
Oh, wait... |

| There is no best before/expiration date or refrigerate after opening notice on any of the 3 different types of bottles I have lying around. Some of the less famous brands have metal caps that aren't plastic coated, these can rust, so leave them in an upright position. Also it's probably best to avoid storing them in direct sunlight, a wet place or next to a heat source (general rule for most things). I usually have one half finished in the fridge (I prefer my soju chilled) and a couple in the cupboard. When you are dealing with alcohol that is about 1$ a bottle, I wouldn't be too worried about spoilage. |
