|

Has anyone done this? Any experiences to relate?
I'm curious as to how it went. For a long time, thought it would be neat if teachers could "couch surf" among their own community/profession. It would be safer - you'd get immediate "settling in" and knowledge of the local scene.
Further, could be handy just for travel - you'd meet someone with the same interests. Perfect for networking.
So, started a directory. http://bit.ly/owqlEb As more existing members change their profiles (and I promote), the directory will grow. What do you think?
Also, any other considerations/perspective welcomed.

I've used couchsurfing.org all over the world. It's an incredible project. I've met friends for life doing it, as well as been shown (and shown others) a great time in all different cities. |

I've hosted here a bunch of times, but never guested. Good experiences, though I didn't stay in touch with my guests. |

Interesting to hear good reports/replies.
I think it might even be better to partner with a fellow teacher. Could help you get the lay of the land vis a vis jobs, accommodation etc.... Also, probably safer within a teaching community.
I'll see how it goes. More members are hitting their profile and saying yes to it - which is good. Won't get into full swing though, until sept and the school year. Let's see.

It's awesome. Though not free, I also love the concept/execution of airbnb.com- great to see alternative accommodation in many places these days. |
