Is an E-2 visa holder's old school or new school responsible for handling the paperwork for a visa transfer? I'm asking b/c my old hagwon boss (my contract w/ him expired on 7/31) is requesting info on my current school, saying he needs it in order to process the visa transfer.

I'm suspicious of his claim b/c we just recently had a bit of a falling out over him not paying severance, so I'm wary of giving out the info he requested for fear he might use it in some way to make my life more difficult. For all I know, he's right and I'm just being paranoid, but I thought I'd see what the better informed denizens of Dave's had to say before I act.

Your old boss's claim is false.

AFTER your contract with your old school is completed he doesn't need to do anything to facilitate the transfer.

The job is yours (with the help of your new school).
passport.
ARC.
new contract.
new school's business registration (copy).
new school's guarantee (sponsorship form).
application
fee.

Thanks, Ttompatz. I actually just thought of why he might be requesting that info: I signed a contract w/ my old school from 8/01/10 - 7/31/11, however I did an E-2 visa run to Japan after 2 months (I know, I know -- I was a total newbie, so I had no idea that both the school and myself were breaking the law), so the date stamp on my visa is actually for 10/22.

In the above case, I'm guessing his request is legitimate after all. Why he didn't let me know he needed this stuff before we parted ways, I don't know. Rolling Eyes
