I'm looking at a position in Ochang, not much info on the web besides a christian blog and a couple youtube videos of apts. One big Homeplus store, a Baskin Robbins, and bakeries. . . Any information about living there would be greatly appreciated. Is there an english speaking church? How to get to Seoul from it, a 45min bus to Cheongju first, then another 90 minute bus ride? I assume a good place to practice Korean with a low number of foreigners. Is there a bar area?

I personally live in Cheongju at the moment and I have been here for the last two years. I used to teach at Ochang middle school, although I commuted from Cheongju everyday (took about 40 minutes on the bus). I wouldn't really call it a city, it's more of a town with a new science industrial area with lots of restaurants and bars (it also gives it a look of a mini city). I dunno about directly from Ochang, but from Cheongju, a bus to Seoul will take an hour and a half. As for an English speaking church in Ochang, I'm not sure, but there are a few churches in Cheongju with English sermons (one is non-demoninational I think, but I'm not sure since I don't go to church), the other is Catholic.

Most foreigners who live in Ochang come to Cheongju since Cheongju has all the foreigner goodies like foreigner bars (there are several) and restaurants. If you need any help, let me know.

It's about the same. Maybe an hour 20 instead.

I don't live in Ochang, but go down there sometimes to visit a friend living down there. A lot of it is really new, and yeah, it's more a town than anything else really. I don't think you'd have much of a social life living there based on the people I know who live there (all married), but as djswayde mentioned, Cheongju isn't ridiculously far away, and Seoul is also kind of accessible.
