Ok, crappy weather seems to be the new normal in Korea. No longer is August sunny and hot. Any F2s or Koreans reading this want to pass on suggestions to the powers that be would be a great idea. Here are my ideas. Instead of salary men taking vacation in August, they take two weeks in late September and early October. Chuseokcould be in mid September based on the western calender. It could be taken in mid to late September on Wed, Thurs, and Fri. That way office workers can have two and a half weeks of vacation when the weather is actually good. By law, all hogwans must close during this period. Public schools get 3 weeks of vacation in summer instead of 5. Two weeks are moved to this new late Sept and early Oct period. This way everyone gets to enjoy some time off during good weather. What's the point of having vacation during crappy weather? Kids will just stay inside with air con and play video games. Vacation when the weather is nice means actually going out and getting some exercise.
I know it's highly unlikely, but you F2's and minority of Koreans reading this are welcome to suggest this idea to others in Korea. After all, what's the point of vacation when the weather's no good? |

Just can't change 100 years of tradition overnight...
Also women hate Chuseok and Seolla, because it would require visiting their husband's family and cooking for them. A longer holiday would just prolong their suffering. |

I don't know of any country that organizes their vacations around the weather. |

Doesn't mean it's a bad idea. Especially since Korea seems to get worse weather than most places.
Where I'm from, summers are nice and line up nicely with vacations. |

what's the problem??
if you accept the adage that a vacation isn't a vacation unless it's outside of Korea, then weather in Korea doesn't matter.
what matters much more is that it's rape and gouge season for airlines,
and that most of SE Asia is in the midst of their rainy season. |
