|
|
Iworked in Seoul from 9/2009 to 11/2010. In June 2010, I received a "tax refund" for a couple hundred Won from the months of 2009 I was working and was told before leaving in November 2010, that I would be getting my tax refund from 2010 around June 2011.
My former employer (who has always been very honest and open about financial matters) wrote a few months ago that my tax refund had been applied for and it would be around W500,000 that I would be getting back.
Then just today I received the following email:
"Regarding Tax refund, I got bad news~~
As for Korean teachers, they got tax refund in the end of June, we have been waited for you until now, but there was nothing.
So we called to Tax office and got the answer that they don't have any experience for tax refund to the people who return to their countries, it means who are not in Korea."
Does anyone know anything about this? If an American (or Canadian or whoever) leaves Korea are the ineligible to get their tax refund back?
Any information would be very much appreciated as I was planning on getting this money back and it's kind of needed at the moment.
Thanks. |

I believe you are eligible. There have people who have received refunds in the past. I know back in 2009. I was supposed to get one, but they bungled up things and sent it to Cheonan instead of Ilsan, and I had to go back home. It was a hassle. I should have followed up sooner. |

so you were able to ultimately get your tax refund? Do you remember how you did it more or less?
I would really appreciate the help I'm at a bit of a loss here.
Thanks! |
