You will get sent to your home country, but please don't use this option for a free ticket home, because jail time is also possible. |

Do keep in mind that there is no free ticket home!. You basically rot in jail until you're able to pay (not to mentione fines, etc.). I'm pretty sure that is how it works. |

Can you back that up.
However, you do have to serve time until whatever fine you've accumulated is paid before you are released. |

The only ay you will get a free ticket, is if it is supplied by your embassy. The Korean Immigartion department will not provide you with a ticket and they will detain you until such a time as a ticket is produced. They are not very nice people. Generally a persons embassy will be notified to assist with any problems. |

The Embassy might not be as hopeful as you might expect. You would be surprised. Anybody here know with certainty? |

I think this has been done before on that other thread about the guy's "friend" who overstayed by about six months...
Anyway, from the immigration website, it says:
the Immigration Office wrote: |
The period of detention shall be less than ten days. However, under unavoidable circumstances, this period can be extended only once within the period not exceeding ten days with the approval of the chief of a district office, branch office or immigration detention center |
You will be detained if you are unable to pay the required fines/plane ticket price and if immigration have reason to suspect you might disappear.
Then Gord so kindly pointed out on the other thread what will happen if you're in detention and unable to pay the fines (and your maximum detention period is about to expire):
Gord wrote: |
If you are unable to arrange the money yourself, they'll contact your government. Your government in turn will contact your family about paying. If your family can't/won't pay, then eventually your government will pay the fine but in exchange they will seize your passport prior to your being released and you will be issued a temporary one good to get you home.
At which point you won't be issued another passport until you paid the debt, as well as seizure of tax refunds and whatnot. |
Happy days ahead then |

There was a huge raid about a month ago when a recruiter was caught bringing in people on fake degrees. Anyway he got busted and gave up the list of people he brought in.
A friend of mines boyfriend got done in. What had happened was that she had finished her course but he was one subject short of a full degree but the recruiter said that this didnt matter and he could lend him a degree till he got it sorted out.
Anyway he got taken to Immigration and was detained there. All personal possesions that were deemed his were confiscated. This amounted to nothing as all money was in the girlfriends bank account and all the stuff was hers.
However it was the other people that got really badly hit. There were 2 people who were engaged to Korean girls as they had been here for 5 years on fake degrees. One was scheduled to get married one week after this whole fiasco. But they were the big losers as they lost about 10 million won between them. Plus the loss of all their personal possesions.
They were deported home as soon as someone had paid for a ticket home.
In regards to fines, I guess the confiscation of all their goods was more then enough to pay for their fines and some. |

I wasn't asking about how long you "do time" for or what the fines are. I asked IF you are deported do you have to go back to your home country or can you go elsewhere, I know this seems confusing but let me give you an example: Im from the US, but wouldn't want to go back there yet, so can I fly elswhere other than home, say Rome? assuming I am the one paying for the ticket can I fly anywhere or only back to the US? And no, I'm not looking for a free ride home! |

That would be very retarded because I am using my British passport, yet I am Canadian.
Being sent to England would be quite a headache... |
