Has anyone ever joined a Korean website such as http://cyworld.nate.com.
A friend of mine has a website there, and in order to make fun of his webpage and leave a message, I need to be a member.
However, when I try to join, I think it is asking for a Korean ID number, the same kind of question which prohibited me from joining Sayclub. Has anyone gotten around this "slightly racist" problem?
thanks |

No, but if anyone has, I'd like to hear it. I find it really annoying that none of them recognize my ARC id number. |

I don't believe the problem to be racist. Korean-Americans I know have the same problem. |

a koreature (korean teacher) i was working with said that there is a korean id generator, similar to a key generator bad peple need when they do bad things like download software for free from bad places like p2p networks....this apparently creats random id numbers suitable for these types of registration. why would this exist? there is a place on the korean net kind of famous for it's....well....risque video chat....it's called "haduri".....many of the strippers....i mean chatters don't want to use their real id as many of them are too young to use these types of services. i don't know where to get this little generator, but perhaps if you are close to any koreans and explain that your 'way gook' id number won't get you past the gates for even registering at the beloved hanmail (true!), they may sympathize and cough up the url for it. i don't have access to the person who told me this or i would go the extra mile and help you break some law by providing the location...sorry. |

Cyworld actually offers registration for foreigners - there's a special link at the bottom of the sign-up page. |

They did exist but they changed the Korean id numbers a few years back and all the number generators don't generate modern numbers so they don't work. |

Hanmail does not require any ID number of registration. Were that other sites the same.

You can add comments on cyworld without joining. Just click on the link from your friend's page that says and then type in any name and password you want plus your comment. Click Ȯ and your comment is added under any name you choose.
And yes, you can join hanmail/daum without a genuine Korean ID. I have an account with them, and likewise I have a cyworld account. As mentioned above, there's an option for foreigners. |
