Hi,
I've been here almost 8 months now. I was hired, and arrived in Korea in October of 2003. So far, I've had no complaints -- I love my school, I enjoy working here, and I am really enjoying my exposure to the new culture.
Some other background -- I am 41, I have a B.Ed., 5 years of Public high school teaching experience in Canada, and a Master's degree in Distance education. I also have a TESL certificate. I know I can teach at a university here and that is my aim.
Since I got here in October last year, I miss the start date for universities semester in September. But I am also 5 months away from the March semester. So my questions are; which semester has the highest ratio of hiring from universities? Should I ask my hakwan to extend my contract for only 4.5 months or for 10.5 months? I'd appreciate the input here. |

You have a solid chance during both intakes, but March had more. I wouldn't base my plans around that. If you have the qualifications and send out a good cv you'll get work in either of the intakes ... |

I'd say you're more than 5 months away from the March semester.
Or do Universities hire in October/November for March jobs? |

Universities are advertising now for jobs in September (4 - 5 months) and as of the beginning of October (when my contract expires) it will be 5 months until March. Unless my calendar isn't the same as yours. |
