I have an iPod Touch 2G that I use as an e-reader during my commute. I generally love it but it seems to be crashtastic with bigger/more complex pdf files (or cbr). Would an iOS update solve this? I'm currently running 3.1.3.
I'm no great fan of I-Tunes and uninstalled it a long time ago but I have noticed that they now have Monster Hunter: Dynamic Hunting in the app store and that requires iOS 4.0 or greater. I do so love MH but would the 2G be able to handle it?
Wikipedia states that it has 128MB of RAM and a 620Mhz CPU. It doesn't seem like the PDF/CBR reader should be crashing on files under 50MB? |

50 MB files are pretty large PDFs for a 2G iPod. Your iPod has 128 MB of RAM, but that is used for everything (including the operating system). Most of your RAM is used up before you even use an application. I think you probably only have about 30-40MB of RAM not being used by the OS. Upgrading your OS will most likely make the problem worse as iOS 4 tends to be more resource-hungry than previous iterations. The only way to fix the problem is to get a more powerful device, or a more efficient PDF/CBR reader program. |
