Hi,

I just joined this board today becasue I am in the process of preparing the documents to apply for a job in Korea. I have been doing a lot of research about my future in Korea including reading many threads on this site. I've noticed a lot of abbreviations and other words used that I am not familiar with. Through context, I have figured out the meaning of some (such as kimmi = korean immigration or FT = foreign teacher) but there are many others (such as ajumma) I have not been able to figure out. Can you please post any common abbreviations /slang/non-english words that new readers here might come across with their meanings? I'm sure that many other readers in addition to myself would appreciate the help.

Thanks!

Google does work for a few, but not most. And it is almost useless for most of the abbreviations. For example, of the three "terms" I listed in my original post only one gave any results that are useful in regards to this website and the discussion within.

1st 3 results from "FT" were: Financial Times, a U.S. financial website, and a wikipedia entry about feet (as in measurement).

Searching "kimmi" returns: Kimmidoll, Kimmi's Channel, and KIMMI Designs.

Only "ajumma" returned any useful results.

not to sound insulting but which ones specifically do you not understand?

i've never had a problem figuring out the lingo here. it's just logic.

simple google search explains what an ajumma is.

ft = foreign teacher.
net = native english teacher

are these really coming off as rocket science to people?
