Hey everyone.

Does anyone know the name of those bugs in the trees these days that give off that electric-sounding noise? I presume it's a mating call, but it's so noticeable that I'm interested to know what they are.

Just a name would be great. I'll research from there. Thanks!

Yep I agree. Google searching for "Korean cicada" after reading the article brought up a video and it showed exactly what I'm seeing and hearing in the trees these days. Thanks!

The korean name for them [매미, maemi] is a nifty onomatopoeia for their sound: mem-mem-mem-i-i-i-i-i.

And here for the past 12 years I thought they were Magic Invisible Korean Tree Chickens, and only I could hear them. Crying or Very sad

Odd....we have the same things in Michigan. Google actually called them Korean cicadas?

Looked and sounded the same as the homeland to me. Maybe they're speaking some Korean I have yet to learn. Shocked

no no, I just searched "Korean cicada" and a YouTube video popped up in the results. I clicked that and voila, my question was answered. I'm not sure what the actual species is called that exists here.

I bet they really are "Magic Invisible Korean Tree Chickens" and they USED TO BE [매미, maemi] until Schwa gave them some of his magic potion.

Sometimes I am 100% sure that I am Marge Simpson. Then I
think about Homer and that I have 0 physical attraction to him.
That is how I can tell that I am not really Marge Simpson.
