Hi could anybody have a little look at this contract and tell me if it's ok, I have my reservations about the salary and overtime. this is my first teaching position in Korea

ONE-YEAR CONTRACT


i
1. Teaching Duties

a) Employee conducts English language classes to the students from elementary to adult level.

b) Employee performs all duties related to classroom work such as lesson plans, preparations, student evaluations and other related duties.

c) Attending teachers� meetings and workshops.


2. Dress Code and School Regulations
The employee will properly dress and behave as a teacher, respect traditional customs and school regulations.


3. Co-operation with other employees
During the term of agreement, the employee shall co-operate with other employees and comply with the directions of the school�s supervisor.


4. The employee is required to come in thirty minutes earlier than session hours for the class preparation, when necessary.


5. Hours of duty
a) From 15:00 - 20:30 hours from Monday to Friday and 13:00 � 17:00 for Saturday, but could be moved earlier in some circumstances.
(e.g. During summer and winter school vacations, teachers are required to work a split shift commencing in the morning. This is usually for a period of about four to five weeks.)

b) The hours of staff meetings or workshops are not regarded as overtime.


6. Salary
a) The employer and employee agree the monthly pay scale as W1,900,000 net per month.

b) Pay day is on the 10th of every month.

c) The overtime pay (more than 30 hours per week) is W15.000 per hour.

d) When the instructor wants to terminate the contract in four months, he/she should pay the Institute half a month�s salary and the airfare paid by the Institute. The employee who has worked for 6-11 months will get the one-way ticket while there is no other benefits.

e) When the employee completes the full contract (12 months) the employee will receive severance pay equivalent to one month�s pay.

7. Accommodation
The Institute provides the employee with furnished single accommodation which includes a bathroom and kitchen.
The employee is responsible if any equipment is damaged.

8. Transportation
The employee is given an economy class round trip air ticket between Toronto, Canada and South Korea, Daegu.

9. Medical Insurance
The employee must join Korea�s Medical Insurance Service.
According to Korea�s Medical Insurance Law, the employer is responsible for 50% of the insurance membership fee.

10. Utilities
Gas, Oil, Electricity and telephone bill are paid by employee.

11. Leave
a) The employee receives 10 days of paid annual leave that are taken on the 4th Friday and Saturday of each month.

b) The employee is also entitled to paid leave on ALL Korean National Holidays.

c) There will also be a summer break and a winter break of a few days each depending on the Calendar.

12. Sick Leave
The employee is entitled to 5 days paid sick leave in 1 contract period.


13. Employee can be dismissed in the following case:
a. Violation of criminal law
b. Frequent absence or tardiness
c. Poor quality of instruction
d. Creation of scandal or ill reputation
e. Uncooperative to school staff and affairs
f. Private lessons out of school
g. Showing no improvement after receiving two times of oral or written warnings.


14. The extension or renewal of this contract should be discussed between both parties 6 weeks before its expiration.


15. This contract is valid from 2nd October 2006, to 1st October 2007.
The dates are subject to the employee�s arrival date in Korea.


This Employment Agreement is made between both parties.

1.9 is pretty low and overtime should be more.
You have to work on Saturdays???
You should hav5 two weeks iff per year. Hopefully 5 consecutive days per. It sounds like you get two off per month??? I would think again.

1.9 and Saturdays? No way.

2. You are to comply with school regulations? What are they? They're going to be pulling things out their butts with this vague clause.

5b. You're going to be doing a lot of unpaid work. And splits are hell, even for a few weeks.

6a. Salary is low.
b. Pay date is too late. If they won't pay you on the last day of the month then you need to be very wary.
c. Overtime is crap. Go for at least 20,000
d. If you terminate within four months you have to pay half a month's salary. That's crap. They're trying to get you to pay back the recruiter fee.

7. Get a list of everything in the apartment.

9. I believe you must have Korean National Health Insurance. Maybe that's what they mean.

11. Doesn't sound like you get continuous vacation days. And no definitive summer or winter break.

The contract is crap. Sorry.

Unpaid workshop hours are not acceptable! This would make good toilet paper Shocked

You should settle for no less than 2 million per mont!

b) Pay day is on the 10th of every month.

This cock a may-me garbage is unacceptable! The do this to prevent runners. I say you should get paid the last working day of every month, but that is my take on the matter.


c) The overtime pay (more than 30 hours per week) is W15.000 per hour.

Low overtime per hour is not acceptable! Accept no less than 20,000 per hour at 2.0 million won per month!

Forks/Knives/Spoons

Refrigerator
Stove
Air conditionar
Heating system
Utilities are paid by the employee.
You're are not responsible for the previous occupant's unpaid bills.


8. Transportation
The employee is given an economy class round trip air ticket between Toronto, Canada and South Korea, Daegu.



Airfare

Roundtrip airfare from and to the nearest international airport to your home, or cash equivalent thereof! Employers may ask you to reimburse them for the total cost of the airfare for dismissal, or resignation any time throughout the contract period. Ask that airfare reimbursements are waived after completing 6 months of employment.


9. Medical Insurance
The employee must join Korea�s Medical Insurance Service.
According to Korea�s Medical Insurance Law, the employer is responsible for 50% of the insurance membership fee.

This is another typical vague clause that I've seen here on Dave's! These stupid hagwon owners won't ever stop either Laughing

How much will your employer prepay per 3 month lump sum (2.24% x monthly salary x 3) for Korean National Healthcare Insurance Premiums?

When will your employer enroll you in the KNHIP?

When will you recive your KNHIP Medical Insurance Card?
